Once every two year, each student at Cornell University is afforded the opportunity to elect a Graduate Student Trustee. Cornell is one of few private universities that share an actual seat on its Board of Trustees with an elected representative from both graduate and undergraduate populations. That representative will vote on critic issues concerning student life, academic affairs, and many key f
actor of Cornell University’s overall operation. This allows us all to make our own impact on the future direction of this institution. It is my great privilege to announce that I am a candidate for the position of Student Trustee. I am Chavez Carter, a second year PhD student in the department of Immunology and Infectious Disease. I study T cell signaling in Airway inflammation in diseases, such as asthma and hypersensitivity psneumonitis. As a student leader on campus, I have been immersed in the student issues of the Cornell community. As President of BGPSA, I have had the privilege of working along side some very dynamic student leader in BGPSA as well as across the Cornell graduate and undergraduate community such as Society for Asian American Graduate Affairs, Latino Graduate, CPAS, BSU, IGSA, LBSA, BLSA, BGBA, LALSA, SWAG and organization within Greek life. My focus has been to help facilitate collaborations amongst student groups and to re-enforce a greater since of community for the students of Cornell. My platform in this campaign is on mental health, enhancing access to university leadership, and empowering your voices within this university
