Dear Residents,

With an upcoming heat wave expected to bring dangerously high temperatures to our area, we encourage everyone to take precautions to stay safe and hydrated.

To help residents stay cool, the Alex Haley pool will have extended hours and will remain open until 9:00 p.m. starting tomorrow July 1, 2026, through Sunday. We invite you to come out after dinner, cool off, and enjoy the pool with your family, friends, and neighbors.

Please remember to:

• Drink plenty of water.
• Limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
• Wear sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors.
• Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone who may need extra assistance during the extreme heat.

We hope the extended pool hours provide a safe and enjoyable way for everyone to beat the heat. We look forward to seeing you at the pool.

🌎✨ A Special Multicultural Exchange at GIAC!
Take a look at this wonderful recap video created by students from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, who visited GIAC on Monday, March 9 to participate in a multicultural program with our Youth Program participants.
This experience was made possible through a partnership with the Cornell University Einhorn Center for Community Engagement.
The students were so inspired by their time with our youth that they created this recap video to share what they learned from the GIAC community. 💛
Our youth had a great time learning about Ecuadorian culture, history, and even playing games together. Moments like these remind us how powerful cultural exchange and community partnerships can be.

The GSVA is coordinating Baby Brigade 2026, a veteran-led community service initiative designed to support families across Ithaca who may be navigating limited childcare, resources, baby essentials, or support networks. Our goal is for this to be a truly collaborative, community-wide effort where all partners are recognized and celebrated.

What is Baby Brigade?

January–March 2026
• A community-wide donation drive collecting diapers, pull-ups, wipes, baby essentials, and caregiver-wellness items (coffee, books, gift cards, mugs, self-care items, etc.).

• We’re also launching “Pull-Ups for Pull-Ups,” a friendly fundraising challenge open to campus and community teams.
Saturday, March 21, 2026 (10 AM–2 PM):

• The Baby Brigade Family Fair: a free, open-to-the-community baby shower and family resource fair where we’ll distribute supplies, have raffles/giveaways for new and expecting parents, and connect parents and caregivers with health, wellness, and family-support organizations.

Our goal is simple: ease the load on families: moms, dads, caregivers, babies, and toddlers, while giving the entire Ithaca community a meaningful way to get involved.
