This past friday, we had the privilege of recognizing Officer Brett Cary during his official Walk Out Ceremony. Throughout his career with the Cornell University Police Department, Officer Cary was a dedicated member of our road patrol division.

With over four decades in the law enforcement, fire services and the emergency medical care field Officer Cary brought professionalism, experience, and a genuine commitment to public service.

His final walk was a moment filled with pride, gratitude, and plenty of memories as we celebrated a remarkable career and the friendships built along the way.

Thank you, Officer Cary, for your years of service, reliability and friendship. We wish you nothing but the best in retirement and the next chapter ahead.

This year, members of the Cornell University Police Department are getting back on the road for the Finger Lakes Ride for Life in support of the Southern Tier AIDS Program (STAP) on Saturday, September 19th, 2026.

We invite our community to join us in supporting this important cause and the work STAP does every day for individuals and families across the Southern Tier. Their programs help provide housing stability, food assistance, access to healthcare services, and critical prevention and recovery resources for those who need them most.

In 2025, thanks to community support, STAP was able to:

Help save 218 lives through reported overdose reversals.
Provide housing assistance to 109 individuals and families.

Assist more than 708 clients with healthcare navigation and support services.

Distribute food to 5,963 people, including children and seniors in our region.

Serve 2,612 individuals through prevention programs and distribute 6,216 overdose kits.

Every contribution—no matter the size—helps strengthen these efforts and supports neighbors right here in our community.

Last week, we had the privilege of recognizing Lt. Murphy during his official Walk Out Ceremony. Throughout his career with the Cornell University Police Department, Lt. Murphy was a steady leader, trusted colleague, and dedicated member of our department.

As the Lieutenant in charge of Investigations, Lt. Murphy brought professionalism, experience, and a genuine commitment to the people around him.

His final walk was a moment filled with pride, gratitude, and plenty of memories as we celebrated a remarkable career and the friendships built along the way.

This past week, members of our department had the opportunity to spend time with students at Dryden High School for a self-defense course.

A big thank you to instructors Jackie Cito and Jesse Gallant for leading the training and sharing their experience. They did a great job working with students and focusing on practical skills, awareness, and confidence in a really approachable way.

We always appreciate the chance to connect with local schools, and we’re grateful to Dryden High School for welcoming us in.

Our department was proud to take part in the Special Olympics Torch Run this past Tuesday, supporting an event that means so much to so many.

The Torch Run is a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, community, and supporting the incredible athletes who inspire us all. We’re honored to help carry the Flame of Hope and stand alongside our community for such a meaningful cause.

As the semester wraps up, we’re looking back on all the great memories from April and early May — from community engagement events to the excitement of Slope Day. We’ve enjoyed connecting with students, faculty, staff, and community members and being part of so many great moments across campus.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by events, shared conversations with our officers, and helped make this semester such a memorable one.
