Who We Are: The Ithaca-Tompkins County Transportation Council (ITCTC) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Tompkins County. Every urbanized area over 50,000 in the U.S. Our job is to make sure local communities have a voice in deciding how federal transportation funds are spent. The ITCTC is a partnership of county, city, town, village, and state officials, along with transportation
agencies like TCAT. Staff support the work of two committees:
• Policy Committee – local leaders who make decisions.
• Planning Committee – technical professionals who develop recommendations. What We Do: We facilitate a safe, efficient, and sustainable multimodal transportation system for people who walk, bike, ride transit, or drive. Our key responsibilities include:
• Preparing the Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP),
• Managing the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP),
• Collecting, analyzing and sharing transportation data, and
• Supporting local transportation-related initiatives, projects and studies. Why It Matters: The way we invest in roads, trails, and transit affects everything, from climate and safety to access to jobs, education, and services. The ITCTC helps local governments make coordinated, data-driven decisions that serve everyone.
