Early Morning House Fire on North Plain Street
ITHACA, NY, July 25, 2026-- Just after 5:00am on Saturday morning, Ithaca Fire was dispatched to the area of North Plain and Esty Streets in the City of Ithaca for a house on fire. Tompkins County 911 received multiple calls from neighbors and was able to update the location to the 400 block of North Plain Street. Upon their arrival, firefighters found a single-family house with fire throughout. Due to the heavy volume of fire, an aggressive exterior attack was performed, and the fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes. Although the house had previously been identified as abandoned, firefighters ensured that no one was inside. The operation closed the street for about 7 hours to accommodate the extinguishment and investigation. IFD is working with the New York State Office of Fire Protection and Control to determine the cause. Off-duty IFD firefighters responded to the City and scene to help, and the Lansing Fire provided an engine crew to cover any additional calls. Ithaca Police, Ithaca Fire Police, the City of Ithaca Building Department, and NYSEG also responded to the scene. The house suffered extensive fire damage, but nobody was hurt. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
