Happy International Firefighters’ Day! 🧑‍🚒 Today we recognize the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of firefighters everywhere. Thank you to all firefighters, past and present, for the work you do both on and off the fireground.

To mark the day, the Varna Volunteer Fire Company hosted a Firefighter Day training focused on sharpening skills, strengthening teamwork, and challenging members through hands-on evolutions. Trainings like these help ensure our crews stay prepared for incoming calls.

Varna Volunteer Fire Company firefighters put their skills to the test during last Wednesday night’s roll-in drills, working through realistic, fast-paced scenarios designed to mirror the challenges of the fireground. From scene size-up and radio communications to ladder placement, hose advancement, and search and rescue, our members trained hard to stay ready for the real thing.

This past Saturday, members of VVFC came together for our annual Varna Cup, a day full of teamwork and friendly fire. With teams Red, Green, and Purple competing in ultimate frisbee, basketball, soccer, kickball, and capture the flag, our volunteers had a great time strengthening friendships and building camaraderie beyond the station grounds. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event a success! ⚽🙌

On Sunday, April 12th, our firefighters had the opportunity to train alongside Lansing Fire Department during a live fire exercise led by Meridian Training. We’re grateful to Instructor Basher for delivering an outstanding and challenging experience.

Trainings like this are invaluable, giving our interior firefighters the chance to sharpen their skills in realistic conditions while working side-by-side with our mutual aid partners from Neptune Hose Company and Cayuga Heights Fire Department. Strong partnerships and shared training make all of us better and safer on the fireground. 🚒🙌

The Varna Volunteer Fire Co. will be opening its doors for RecruitNY on Sunday, April 19th from 1-4PM! Whether you’re interested in becoming a volunteer or bringing your kids to see our trucks, we will have ample opportunities at our open house to show individuals and families alike how our fire department serves the community. 🚒🔥 Drop by anytime and stay as long as you’d like. Refreshments will be provided!
