The City of Ithaca Fire Department invites the community to join us as we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Art of Saving Democracy: Book Talk

Thursday, September 10, from 5–6 PM at Buffalo Street Books- Svante Myrick, president of People For the American Way and former Mayor of Ithaca, will share reflections on the state of our democracy and how creative resistance can play a powerful role in strengthening it.

New York State Assemblymember Dr. Anna Kelles will moderate the conversation.

City Offices Closed for Labor Day Holiday

On Monday, September 7, 2026, City Offices will be closed in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

Trash collection will not occur on Monday, 9/7, and will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week- Monday's collection occurring on Tuesday, Tuesday's on Weds, etc.

Offices will re-open and hold regular hours on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Master Plumber
Water & Sewer Installer
Journeyman Plumber

Applications are available on the City's website, at the Plumbing Inspector’s Office or by emailing [email protected].

Applications will be reviewed September 28 & October 26, with approved applicants scheduled for November exams.

The City of Ithaca announces with sadness the passing of former Mayor John “Gutie” Gutenberger, who served from 1984 to 1990. His leadership supported cooperation across local institutions and strengthened professional administration within city government.

Mayor Robert G. Cantelmo said, “The City mourns the loss of Mayor John ‘Gutie’ Gutenberger. Mayor Gutenberger helped kindle a strong working relationship between the City and Cornell University and was an early proponent of professional administration for city government. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Let us remember the important contributions and service of this Ithaca institution.”
