The Ithaca City School District (ICSD) uses official social media accounts to share information, news, updates, resources, and other content related to the district and its schools. The page is used as an information-sharing channel and is not operated as a forum for public comment or discussion. Comments remain enabled on the ICSD Instagram account. Because the district provides an opportunity for members of the public to comment, comments are subject to the following community guidelines. The ICSD expects users to engage with one another respectfully and in accordance with applicable law and district policies. The district does not remove comments based on the viewpoint expressed, including criticism of the district, its employees, programs, policies, or decisions. Comments may be removed, hidden, or restricted when they fall within one or more of the following categories:
- Threats of violence or credible threats to the safety of individuals or the school community
- Content that is unlawful or directly encourages unlawful activity
- Obscene or sexually explicit content
- Content that constitutes targeted harassment or unlawful discrimination
- Content that discloses confidential or legally protected information, including student information protected by FERPA
- Content that contains personal identifying information, including Social Security numbers, student identification numbers, home addresses, personal telephone numbers, or other sensitive information
- Content that impersonates another person or entity in a manner that is deceptive or misleading
- Spam, including repetitive or substantially duplicative comments, automated content, or content unrelated to the operation of the account
- Commercial solicitations or advertisements that are unrelated to the ICSD or the purpose of the account
- Content that violates intellectual property rights or other applicable laws
Criticism, disagreement, political viewpoints, or negative opinions about the district or its decisions are not, by themselves, grounds for removing a comment. The district may also limit or disable comments on individual Instagram posts when appropriate based on the operational needs of the account or the subject matter of the post. PRIVACY AND STUDENT INFORMATION
Please do not post confidential or personally identifying information about students, families, or staff. Public comments are visible to others and may be copied, shared, or otherwise distributed. Questions or concerns involving individual students or employees should not be raised through social media. Please contact the appropriate district office directly. MONITORING
ICSD social media accounts are regularly monitored by district staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Social media monitoring does not constitute 24-hour monitoring or an emergency response service. If you believe a comment violates these guidelines, please contact the ICSD Communications Office at (607) 274-2101, ext. 71105 or [email protected]. The district may update these guidelines as necessary to reflect changes in district operations, technology, or applicable law.
