The Ithaca 2030 District is an interdisciplinary public-private collaboration working to create a groundbreaking high-performance building district in Downtown Ithaca. A project of the Tompkins County Climate Protection Initiative (TCCPI), the Ithaca 2030 District is part of a larger effort in Tompkins County to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2050.

The 2025 annual progress report for the Ithaca 2030 District is out, and we're pleased to share the news that the District realized overall energy savings of 33.3% from the baseline last year and used 58.5% less water compared to the baseline.

Last year saw a string of costly extreme weather events fueled by climate change across New York, including record rainfall, flash flooding, and tornadoes in upstate communities. This past August Tropical Storm Debby's remnants caused flash flooding and widespread damage in the Finger Lakes. These events altogether caused over $1 billion in damages in New York in 2024. In the face of escalating costs, by implementing a good cap-and-invest system, the state has an important opportunity to bring in much-needed funds to pay for climate damage going forward, while also reducing emissions from major polluters....
