🔥 PUBLIC NOTICE — PROHIBITED OPEN BURNING
The Iuka Fire Department would like to remind residents that Mississippi law and environmental regulations prohibit the open burning of household and solid waste.
Items that should NOT be burned include, but are not limited to:
🚫 Tires and other rubber products
🚫 Mattresses and furniture
🚫 Plastics and vinyl
🚫 Household garbage
🚫 Construction or demolition materials
🚫 Other manufactured or solid-waste materials
Burning these materials can release hazardous pollutants into the air and can also create an unnecessary fire hazard.
Mississippi open-burning requirements are established under 11 Miss. Admin. Code Pt. 2, Ch. 1, Rule 1.3(G) and related Mississippi environmental statutes. These regulations specifically prohibit open burning of residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial solid waste.
Please remember that the ability to burn leaves, limbs, brush, or other vegetative debris does not mean that household trash, tires, mattresses, furniture, or similar materials may be added to the fire.
We ask everyone to help us protect our community, our neighbors, and our environment by disposing of these materials through an appropriate waste or disposal facility.
