Officer Bannister and K9 Drake assisted Honea Path PD with an incident today! Appreciate the dedication of this K9 team for the tough and long track they had today. We’re grateful for relationships where resources can be shared amongst our agencies.

🚔 Honea Path Police Department 🚔

What started as a quiet Saturday afternoon quickly turned into a reminder that in law enforcement, you never know how fast things can change.

🤝 Today was a great example of what strong partnerships look like. The Honea Path Police Department was proud to work alongside the Iva Police Department—an agency I previously had the honor of serving as Chief. That relationship continues to stand strong, and it shows in moments like this.

Officer Bannister and K9 702, Drake, along with Officer Gorham and Officer Brown, worked tirelessly running a track through thick woods, heavy brush, and even across creeks. Their determination and commitment reflect the oath they took—to serve and protect—and their dedication to bringing criminals to justice.

This is the kind of teamwork and professionalism that keeps our communities safe.

A special thank you to Chief Bench and the Iva Police Department for their continued cooperation and support. Our departments have consistently worked together, sharing resources and assisting one another whenever additional manpower is needed on scene. That level of mutual aid and trust makes a real difference.

📢 More information will be released regarding today’s incident, but we felt it was important to recognize the hard work and dedication displayed by both departments.

💙 We appreciate the commitment shown by everyone involved:: Chief Miller Honea Path Police

On February 9, 2026, officers with the Iva Police Department, along with deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched to 101 Park Drive within the Town of Iva regarding a reported stabbing.

Upon arrival, the Iva Police Officer cleared the scene for EMS to enter and render aid to the victim. The victim was then flown by LifeFlight to a medical facility.

Following the information provided by the victim, the Iva Police Department deployed its K-9 to track the suspect. Ultimately, the track yielded no results.

After a thorough investigation, officers concluded that the incident did not occur as initially reported. Evidence led officers to determine it was a self-inflicted injury.

Subsequently, the Iva Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for the reporting person for providing false information.

The person was taken into custody at the Iva Police Department and transported to the Anderson County Detention Center.

The Iva Police Department thanks the Anderson County 911 Communications Center, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Honea Path Police Department, Anderson County EMS, Medshore Ambulance Service, and the Iva Fire Department for their assistance with this incident.

Stay on sidewalks and use crosswalks.
Carry a flashlight or glow sticks to stay visible.

Avoid distractions and stay alert!

🏠 Homeowners:
Keep walkways well-lit and free of obstacles.
If you’re passing out candy, make sure it’s from sealed packages only.

Move over for emergency vehicles- it’s the law! This is the third State Trooper injured in a month while they are just doing their jobs. Prayers for a speedy recovery!

One of our troopers, Master Trooper Wayne H. LaBounty, was hit by a vehicle this morning while performing a traffic stop in Lexington County. Master Trooper LaBounty, a 40-year law enforcement veteran, was airlifted to Prisma Health in serious condition. We ask that everyone keeps him in your prayers as he continues to recover. For questions regarding the investigation, Richland County Sheriff's Department is handling due to Lexington County Sheriff's Department’s vehicle involvement in the incident.

This is now the third SC Highway Patrol trooper to be injured or killed in the last month:
1) Trooper First Class Dennis D. Ricks: Died from injuries on August 13, 2025.

2) Senior Trooper Mitchell Williams Jr.: Recovering at home from injuries sustained this past Sunday, September 7.

3) Master Trooper Wayne H. LaBounty: In serious condition at the hospital from injuries sustained this morning, September 9.

We are pleading with the public to slow down, move over for blue lights, and never drive impaired.
