Who remembers Gropel Hardware? The pictures are of the construction of Gropel Hardware, which was built in the 1940's, and operated by W.J. Gropel. Gropel Hardware was one of two hardware stores in Ivanhoe during the 1940's. The other one was Coast to Coast. Do you remember where Gropel Hardware was located in Ivanhoe? Also do you remember the Coast to Coast store and where it's location was? Enjoy these pictures.

It's the end of another school year, and I thought it would be fun to share pictures of our community's first school, along with a picture of the current school, minus the new additions.

I have also included pictures of the faculty during the 1935-36 school year. Faculty members are listed on the pictures--who remembers Mr. Frisby? He began with the Ivanhoe School district in 1928 as a teacher and coach and retired in 1974 as superintendent.

The final picture is a group of elementary students. I would guess they are third graders or so. Notice girls are wearing dresses and boys are wearing bibs. Notice also that two boys are holding baseball bats-- could they also be looking forward to the end of the school year?

History on the school buildings. The first school was built in 1902 for a cost of $6000. It sat where the auditorium sits today. The second school was built in 1920 with additions built in 1956 for $495,000.
