Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety

Last night, August 12, members of Santa Clara-Ivins Fire & Rescue and Santa Clara-Ivins Police were recognized during the Santa Clara City Council meeting with two Life Saving Awards for their actions during two critical emergencies on July 24, 2026.

The first incident involved an adult cardiac arrest, with emergency crews arriving in approximately 3.5 minutes. The second involved a pediatric drowning, with crews arriving in approximately 2.5 minutes.

In both incidents, firefighters, paramedics, and officers worked together to quickly provide lifesaving care during the first critical minutes of each emergency. In both incidents, the patients were transported to the emergency department, admitted to the hospital, and ultimately discharged home with positive outcomes.

These two calls are powerful examples of why rapid response, training, teamwork, and coordination between Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, dispatchers, and our hospital partners matter.

For our crews, few things are more meaningful than knowing that the work performed during someone’s worst moments helped give them the opportunity to return home to their families.

We are proud of the firefighters and law enforcement officers recognized for their actions and grateful for the strong partnership between our public safety agencies. Most importantly, we are thankful that both patients are home with their families today.

Officer Pondoyo says thumbs up to a new school year!

School is officially back in session! As everyone settles back into the routine, here are a few quick reminders to help keep our students safe:

SLOW DOWN & STAY ALERT: School zones, drop-off areas, and neighborhoods are busy again. Put the phone down and watch for kids walking and biking.

CROSS SAFELY: Use designated crosswalks, look both ways, and follow the directions of crossing guards.

WATCH FOR SCHOOL BUSES: Be prepared to stop for buses loading and unloading students.

THINK BEFORE YOU POST: We love first-day-of-school pictures too! Consider leaving your child’s teacher, classroom, schedule, bus stop, and other identifying information off public social media posts.

EXTRA PATROLS: Our officers will be providing extra patrol around our schools and school zones as everyone gets back into the routine.

Give yourself a little extra time, be patient, stay alert, and help us start the school year safely.

Due to the current statewide wildfire emergency, personal fireworks are prohibited throughout all of Ivins City during the Independence Day holiday period.

With extreme fire danger across Utah and firefighting resources already committed to active wildfires, this restriction helps reduce preventable fires and ensures emergency responders are available where they’re needed most.

**Personal fireworks are not permitted anywhere within Ivins City.***

We have been contacted by Alina and Anastasia, college students participating in the Southwestern Advantage summer internship program. They have obtained the required business licenses and are legally conducting door-to-door sales in the Santa Clara and Ivins areas.

The students are offering educational materials for children of various ages and are working through the program to help pay for college while gaining cultural and business experience in the United States.

As always, residents are under no obligation to answer the door or make a purchase. If you are not interested, simply let them know.

During June 2026, multiple public safety agencies from across the county will be participating in Active Attack Training, formerly known as Active Shooter Training.
As part of this training, non-encrypted radio channels will be used. If you hear radio traffic related to these exercises, please do not call the police to report an active threat and do not share the information on social media or through other communication channels as though it is a real incident.

This training is critical to helping officers and first responders prepare to locate and stop threats as quickly as possible, protect victims, coordinate with fire and EMS personnel, communicate effectively under pressure, and manage rapidly evolving, chaotic scenes. Because these incidents are unpredictable and can unfold within minutes, regular training is essential to ensuring a coordinated and effective response.

We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation as agencies work together to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities.

The last known contact with Russell was on May 18, 2026. His vehicle was last observed on May 18, 2026, around 8:00 AM traveling westbound on Old Highway 91 leaving Ivins, Utah.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department. Even seemingly minor information may be helpful to the investigation.

Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor and remember the law enforcement officers across our nation who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

During National Police Week, agencies from across the country gathered in Washington, D.C. to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in service to their communities. Our own Chief Studley had the opportunity to attend the memorial events this week alongside law enforcement officers from across the nation.

We also recognize the families, friends, and fellow officers who continue to carry that loss each day. Their sacrifice and service will never be forgotten.

The Santa Clara–Ivins Police Department stands alongside agencies throughout Utah and the United States in honoring the courage, dedication, and selfless service of fallen officers.
