Winter Storm Incoming and It’s Not Kidding

We love our friends at the National Weather Service, but wow, we really wish they were wrong. Snow, ice, and cold are about to drop the full winter remix nobody wants to hear.

What this means for you:

• Roads will be messy. Snow emergencies mean stay home if you can. Many Bucks County municipalities have declared or will declare snow emergencies. Stay off the roads and check your municipality’s website or social media for updates.

• Leave space to work. Getting stuck can mean long delays and an accidental starring role in “Rescue: Snow Edition.”

• Needing help on the road during a snow storm makes you a hazard for first responders and snow plows.

Be safe, smart, and slightly cozy:

• Stay warm. Keep extra blankets around in case of power outages because it is going to be cold and stay cold.

• Food prep. Have snacks ready that do not need cooking. Fill a cooler with cold items that let you access food without spoiling everything in your refrigerator or freezer.

• Water. Fill your bathtub in case your well pump stops working. Have extra buckets of water near your bathroom so you can flush the toilet manually by pouring water directly into the bowl.

• Light and power. Charge your devices, stock flashlights, and grab extra batteries. Roads may be snowed in, so power could be out for a while while utility workers restore lines.

• Check on loved ones and neighbors. If you know someone who may need help, consider bringing them to your home for the weekend. When an event impacts everyone and roads are covered in snow, you become the first responder for yourself, your family, and neighbors.

• Food safety. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed. Once opened, the time before food spoils decreases significantly. Nobody wants food poisoning on top of a power outage.

• Warming Centers: Check your local municipality’s website or social media for locations. It’s better to know ahead of time than to search in the moment.

Snow, ice, and downed power lines may make life inconvenient, but preparing now can keep it from being miserable.

We will be here and ready at the Emergency Operations Center, all weekend, day and night. We wish everyone a safe and uneventful weekend.
