Today Senator Brent Hagenbuch and I submitted a letter to the Texas Department of Transportation urging immediate action to preserve the Amtrak Heartland Flyer.

The Heartland Flyer is more than just a train. For many residents of Cooke County, it provides an important connection to jobs, medical care, education, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

We are asking TxDOT to provide the funding needed to keep the Heartland Flyer operating until the Legislature can address a long-term solution and to include dedicated funding for the route in its next budget request.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to our office to share your concerns. We also appreciate the leadership of the City of Gainesville Government, the Gainesville Economic Development Corp, and all of our local partners who continue working to keep this important service available for our community.

We'll continue working to protect this vital transportation link for Cooke County and North Texas.

AUSTIN โ€” State Representative David Spiller (R-Jacksboro) announced that he has joined 42 fellow Texas legislators in signing an amicus brief before the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) requesting that the Commission review the proposed 765-kV transmission buildout as a whole before making determinations on any individual project.

The amicus brief supports a motion filed by American Stewards of Liberty for limited procedural relief. It does not seek to stop the projects entirely, but rather asks the PUC to determine whether all five 765-kV projects are truly needed before any individual determinations are made. Routing studies, environmental reviews, and landowner proceedings would continue in the meantime.

Rep. Spiller has been raising concerns directly with the PUC on behalf of HD 68 landowners and communities since November 2025, including:

November 2025: Called on the Commission to allow more time to study potential impacts and evaluate alternative routes for the Dinosaur-Longshore and Bell County East-Big Hill projects, after hearing extensive concerns from local officials, landowners, and community members across the district.

March 2026: Raised specific concerns about landowners in Shackelford and Mills Counties who were added to proposed routing areas after initial outreach had already concluded elsewhere in the district.

April 2026: Broadened those concerns to include the overall timing, necessity, and cost of the proposed buildout, asking the Commission to more closely examine whether each project is truly needed at this time.

Signing the amicus brief is the next step in that same effort.

"I have been hearing from landowners and local officials across this district since last fall, and their concerns have only grown as this process has moved forward," said Rep. Spiller. "I have repeatedly asked the Commission to slow down, review the full record, and get this right. Taking the time to make an informed decision is not an obstacle to progress โ€“ it is responsible governance. These are generational decisions for the families and landowners I represent."

The amicus brief was signed by the following members of the Texas Legislature:

State Senators: Donna Campbell, Pete Flores, Brent Hagenbuch, Bob Hall, Joan Huffman, Lois Kolkhorst, Angela Paxton, Charles Perry, and Kevin Sparks.

State Representatives: Trent Ashby, Keith Bell, Greg Bonnen, Brad Buckley, David Cook, Charles Cunningham, James Frank, Sam Harless, Caroline Harris Davila, Richard Hayes, Hillary Hickland, Janis Holt, Andy Hopper, Carrie Isaac, Jeff Leach, Terri Leo Wilson, Shelly Luther, Don McLaughlin, Brent Money, Candy Noble, Mike Olcott, Angelia Orr, Katrina Pierson, Keresa Richardson, Alan Schoolcraft, Joanne Shofner, Shelby Slawson, David Spiller, Valoree Swanson, Ellen Troxclair, Cody Vasut, Wes Virdell, Trey Wharton, and Terry Wilson.

Today we recognize Flag Day, marking the adoption of the Stars and Stripes on June 14, 1777. For generations, our flag has stood as a symbol of freedom, unity and the enduring strength of the American people. It remains a lasting reminder of the principles, sacrifices and shared history that bind our nation together. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Thereโ€™s nothing quite like the Texas Republican State Convention to remind you what this party is made of. Thousands of conservatives from every corner of the state โ€” ranchers, small business owners, veterans, everyday Texans โ€” all united around the same goal: winning in November. HD 68 was well represented and Iโ€™m proud to carry that energy home. The best is yet to come for Texas.

๐Ÿšจ Big news for rural Texas ๐Ÿšจ

Governor Abbott sent a letter today to the Public Utility Commission directing them to require data centers to pay for their own electric infrastructure โ€” so everyday Texans arenโ€™t stuck with the bill. This is exactly the conversation Iโ€™ve been pushing in HD 68.

The Governor is also pledging to work with the Legislature next session on setbacks, noise reduction, water-efficient cooling requirements, and repealing unnecessary tax exemptions for data centers. Iโ€™ll be watching closely and working to make sure HD 68 communities have a seat at the table.

"Pick 12 and call it the Dirty Dozen."

At this week's House Committee on Insurance hearing, I pushed for answers on one of the biggest concerns facing Texas families and employers: rising healthcare costs.

Texas ranks 3rd nationally for insurance mandates exceeding federal minimums, and I made clear the next step is identifying which mandates are driving costs the most - and what can be done about it.

My focus: follow the data, identify the biggest cost drivers, and find solutions that improve affordability for Texas consumers, employers, and small businesses.

Today, we remember the Greatest Generation and the extraordinary courage they showed on D-Day. Their sacrifice helped turn the tide of World War II and preserve liberty for millions. We owe them a debt that can never be fully repaid.

At the Capitol for an interim hearing of the House Committee on Insurance focused on an issue impacting nearly every Texas family, employer, and small business: the rising cost and availability of healthcare coverage.

Discussions include healthcare affordability, challenges facing employers and providers, the impact of federal healthcare policies, and what changes may be needed to ensure Texans have access to reliable and affordable healthcare options.

Rural Texans often feel these challenges first and hardest. Whether itโ€™s rising premiums, provider shortages, or access to care, these issues directly affect families, businesses, hospitals, and communities across House District 68.

I look forward to bringing the voices and concerns of rural Texas to the conversation and continuing to fight for commonsense solutions that work for our communities.
