Why the Jack County Sheriff’s Office has an Armored MRAP — and How It Serves You

The Jack County Sheriff’s Office is proud to share the many ways our recently acquired MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle benefits our community.

This $750,000 piece of specialized equipment was awarded to Jack County at no cost to local taxpayers through a federal government loan program designed to support rural law enforcement agencies. (Edited to explain it’s an equipment loan not a money loan. If the military ever has a need for it they can come take it back)

While originally built for military use, MRAPs are now a valuable tool for public safety and rescue operations in communities like ours.

Here’s how it helps us serve Jack County more effectively:

Rescue Under Fire
The MRAP’s armored protection allows deputies to safely approach or extract individuals during active shooter incidents, barricaded subjects, or hostile environments where gunfire may be present. It provides a life-saving shield for officers and civilians alike.

High-Risk Search Warrants
When deputies must serve search warrants on violent offenders, drug traffickers, or armed suspects, the MRAP provides a secure, mobile base of operations. It helps ensure that our teams can safely execute their duties while minimizing risk to everyone involved.

High-Water and Flood Rescues
The MRAP’s size, height, and power make it capable of navigating high water to rescue stranded residents during floods or severe weather — situations where standard patrol vehicles can’t reach.

Public Events & Community Engagement
Beyond emergencies, you’ll also see the MRAP at community events, parades, and safety demonstrations. It’s a great way for residents—especially kids—to get a close look at the tools we use to keep Jack County safe.

The MRAP represents another step forward in our commitment to public safety, preparedness, and fiscal responsibility. We’re proud to have secured such a valuable resource without spending a single local tax dollar — ensuring Jack County remains equipped, ready, and protected.nt e

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Seizure and Felony Arrest

The Jack County Sheriff's Office successfully interrupted a drug delivery operation destined for our community.

While on routine patrol in the Cundiff area, a deputy observed a westbound vehicle traveling on FM 1810 that was not displaying a front license plate. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated in an effort to flee.

The pursuit continued southbound on Coca Cola Ranch Road. During the chase, the male driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The female passenger then moved into the driver’s seat and sped away. Deputies continued the pursuit, and the vehicle ultimately crashed on private ranch property.

The female was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for observation and was later released.

Additional deputies responded to assist in the search for the male suspect. Within an hour, he was apprehended in the area of Coca Cola Ranch Road.

Further investigation revealed the male suspect had an outstanding felony warrant. Deputies recovered nearly one pound of methamphetamine from a backpack found inside the vehicle. Evidence gathered at the scene indicated the suspects were en route to a known location within Jack County.

The female suspect was later apprehended as well.

We thank our deputies for their vigilance and swift action in removing dangerous drugs from our streets. Please join us in continuing to make Jack County a safer place to live.

Jail Inspection Success – Zero Deficiencies!

Today, the Jack County Jail underwent a surprise inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. After a thorough, all-day audit reviewing our records, facility, and operations, we are proud to announce that our jail passed with flying colors — ZERO deficiencies!

This outstanding result is a reflection of the dedication, professionalism, and attention to detail shown every single day by our jail staff, led by Jail Administrator Jeff Miller.

Operating a county jail is one of the toughest and most demanding jobs in law enforcement. These men and women work tirelessly behind the scenes — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — ensuring the safety and security of the facility, caring for those in our custody, managing countless records, and maintaining compliance with strict state standards.

Their work is not always seen by the public, but it is absolutely vital to the mission of the Jack County Sheriff’s Office and to the safety of our community.

Please join us in congratulating Jeff Miller and the entire Jail Division for their hard work, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.

Outstanding job, team!
