Weekly Activity Report: August 10 - August 14, 2026.
Back to School: As a reminder, school started on Wednesday, so please be mindful of the school zones.
Pack the Bus: The Lions Club Pack the Bus Campaign is ongoing until August 24, 2026. There is a box at City Hall for anyone that wants to contribute school supplies.
BURN BAN: As a reminder, Jack County is currently in a burn ban until further notice.
The Street Department repaired several streets where the Water Department had recently installed new water taps. They worked on repairs on the streets for the bus routes. They also cleaned curbs and gutters on Live Oak Street and began repairs on Lost Creek Road. The department also ordered a new dual-drum roller that will be necessary to transfer from cold mix asphalt to hot mix asphalt.
Parks and Recreation trimmed trees along all the bus routes and around stop signs. They did maintenance at several playgrounds and delivered four dumpsters. They also repaired the windsock and runway lights at the airport.
The Police Department responded to 74 calls for service and issued 66 citations and 25 warnings. Chief Penny met with Superintendent Brad Burnett on Monday to discuss School Resource Officer plans and responsibilities for the upcoming school year. On Wednesday, officers from the Police Department and Deputies from the Sheriff's Office joined to welcome students back to school at all JISD campuses.
Distribution and Collection responded to 26 calls for service. We are already noticing positive feedback from combining the Distribution and Collection Department with the Street Department to create a "Public Works" Department. The collaboration will help make both departments much more efficient.
The Building Inspector completed 13 building inspections and/or plan reviews for new construction. He also spent three days attending classes in order to obtain new certifications in order to provide additional support and resources to our residents.
We want to recognize Anthony Shaw for obtaining his Backflow Preventor Inspection License. This will provide additional resources to the City in order to provide additional support to our residents.
Our next City Council Meeting is scheduled for August 24, 2026. The main focus of the meeting will be reviewing the draft budget and selecting a property tax rate.
