Jackson Bog

Jackson Bog Jackson Bog is a a rare type of wetland know as a Boreal Fen Remnant. The 58-acre preserve is located in northern Stark County, Ohio.

Unique geologic conditions have created a habitat that is home to dozens of rare and/or endangered plants and animals.

It's great to see an actual honeybee at work pollinating white clover in Jackson Bog. The honeybee isn't doing so well in Ohio or anywhere else for that matter. To our knowledge there are no apiaries within a mile or so of the fen, so this guy is probably a member of a feral swarm. good for him

Purple Loosestrife is one of the wildflowers that makes Jackson Bog so beautiful in the late summer. It is also endangering the fen. it is an invasive species and, if left unchecked, could choke out the indigenous Boreal species that makes the Fen unique among Ohio habitats.
