Statement from 4EverCaring Evonne on the Passage of Mississippi House Bill 1607

With deep concern and unwavering resolve, 4EverCaring Evonne addresses the passage of House Bill 1607, known as the "Mississippi Women's Bill of Rights." This legislation, now law, enacts definitions and distinctions concerning gender that fail to recognize the existence and rights of transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals in Mississippi. By codifying a binary understanding of s*x, this law undermines the dignity, safety, and equality of the transgender community.

This law is not merely a statement of principles; it has profound implications for the rights and lives of transgender people across Mississippi. It affects access to healthcare, including gender-affirming care, and challenges the ability of individuals to participate fully and freely in society as their true selves. Moreover, this legislation may embolden discriminatory practices in employment, education, and public accommodations, further marginalizing our community.

4EverCaring Evonne stands firmly against the marginalization and erasure of any individual's identity. The passage of HB1607 represents a distressing step backward in the fight for equal rights and recognition under the law. However, let this moment of adversity strengthen our resolve to fight for a society that acknowledges and celebrates the diversity of human identity.

We call upon allies, supporters, and all who stand with the transgender community to unite in opposition to this law and to work towards the protection and advancement of transgender rights in Mississippi and beyond. Our efforts must focus on education, advocacy, and legal challenges to ensure that the rights of all individuals are respected and protected.

To the transgender community in Mississippi: You are not alone. 4EverCaring Evonne is with you, and we are committed to supporting you through these challenging times. We will continue to offer our services, support, and advocacy to uplift and protect your rights and well-being.

In the days ahead, 4EverCaring Evonne will intensify our efforts to address the impacts of this law. We will collaborate with legal experts, community organizations, and policymakers to challenge and overturn discriminatory laws and practices. Together, we can build a future where every person is recognized and valued for who they are, not defined or limited by legislation.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH...
We salute Tongues Untied, the 1989 documentary film by Director Marlon Riggs. The film “shatter the nation’s brutalizing silence on matters of s*xual and racial difference”. Its radical blend of documentary and performance defies the stigmas surrounding Black gay s*xuality in the belief that, as long as shame prevails, liberation cannot be possible. Through music and dance, words and poetry by such pathbreaking writers as Ess*x Hemphill and Joseph Beam. Tongues Untied gives voice to what it means to live as an outsider in both a Black community rife with homophobia and a largely white gay subculture poisoned by racism.
