03/18/2026

NEW LEGISLATION ALERT!! The Mississippi State Board of Public Accountancy is pleased to advise that effective July 1, 2026, there will be a new pathway to licensure as a CPA! This new pathway will require a baccalaureate degree and 2 years’ experience. The old pathway of a baccalaureate degree with additional hours up to 150 semester hours and 1 year experience is still acceptable. Additionally, clarification was added to statute that a post graduate degree and 1 year of experience is also an acceptable pathway. All three licensure pathways require an accounting concentration or equivalent as determined by Board rule and passage of all parts of the Uniform CPA Exam.

January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2024
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Rick Elam, CPA, who is stepping down from the Mississippi State Board of Public Accountancy (Board) after 20 years of service. Rick has been instrumental in the regulatory, education, and professional accounting fields. Through four terms on the Board, multiple terms as Chair, he also served on the CPA Licensing Examination and CPE Committees for the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. In addition to his time as the Board member appointed from the 1st Congressional District, he has also served as a faculty member, and Reynolds Chair of Accountancy, with the E. H. Patterson School of Accountancy at Ole Miss. Prior to becoming a faculty member at Ole Miss, he served as the Vice President of Education with the AICPA. His leadership, kindness and support will be greatly missed by the remaining Board members as well as the Board staff. We wish him all the best in a most well-deserved retirement.
