2026 Chip and Fog Seal Program – Jackson County
The Jackson County Department of Transportation (JCDOT) will begin its annual Chip and Fog Seal Program on Monday, July 6, 2026, weather permitting. The program is expected to continue through Friday, August 29, 2026, and will include various roads throughout Jackson County.
Chip and fog sealing is an important part of JCDOT’s ongoing pavement preservation program. This cost-effective treatment helps extend the life of county roads by sealing the pavement surface, protecting it from moisture, and improving overall roadway conditions for motorists.
JCDOT makes every effort to complete this work safely and efficiently while reducing inconvenience to the traveling public. During and immediately after chip seal operations, motorists may notice loose stone on the roadway. To help minimize vehicle damage, JCDOT posts reduced speeds in work zones, closes roadways or lanes when necessary, and sweeps the roadway after project completion to remove loose stones.
Motorists can help protect their vehicles and support worker safety by following these tips when traveling through chip seal project areas:
• Use alternate routes when possible.
• Slow down. Higher speeds can cause loose stones to scatter and may damage vehicle paint or windshields.
• Increase the distance between vehicles to reduce the chance of damage from loose stones.
• Follow all posted work zone signage, use caution, and watch for workers and equipment.
JCDOT appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as crews complete this important seasonal road maintenance work throughout Jackson County.
