Work is scheduled to begin tonight on a project to install high-friction surface on KY 82 between the Estill County line and the KY 15/Mountain Parkway intersection in Powell County. Milling will take place beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will last 1-2 nights. Flaggers will have illuminated stop-slow paddles to enhance visibility, but drivers should use extra caution. Work will begin at the county line and progress toward Clay City.
Following the milling operation, the road will be open for five days for dust removal. After that, crack sealing (if necessary) will take place. That is expected to take two additional days and will involve lane closures. If crack sealing occurs, the sealant will require a curing time of 30 days before paving operations take place.
No lane closures will be allowed weekdays from 7-9 a.m. or 3-6 p.m., or over the Labor Day weekend (3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4 through 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7).
This is all part of the Highway Safety Improvement Program project to improve traction on this section of KY 82.
