Sheriff Davis made history as the first African American sheriff elected in the State of Mississippi, a milestone that opened doors for countless others and demonstrated what determination, integrity, and community trust can achieve. His service was never just a position — it was a calling. He dedicated his life to protecting his community, uplifting families, and ensuring that justice was carried out with fairness and respect.

On behalf of Hinds County, Sheriff Tyree D. Jones honors Sheriff Davis as a trailblazer, a public servant, and a man whose legacy will continue to inspire law enforcement professionals across Mississippi. His contributions strengthened not only Claiborne County but the entire state, and his impact will be remembered with gratitude.

🎓 Congratulations to Our Citizens Academy Graduates!

Last night, we proudly celebrated the newest graduates of our second 2026 HCSO Citizens Academy — a committed group of community members who dedicated their time to learning more about public safety, our operations, and the work we do each day in Hinds County.

A special thank‑you to Pastor Crisler and the Belmont M.B. Church for graciously hosting this year’s academy. Your support, hospitality, and partnership continue to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community we serve.

HCSO Command Staff Leadership Training

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office proudly recognizes members of our command staff who attended and successfully completed the two‑day Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Leadership Development for Law Enforcement Executives held last week at the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers’ Training Academy.

This specialized training, provided by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, strengthens our ability to lead, support, and guide deputies in responding safely and effectively to individuals experiencing mental illness. As mental health continues to intersect with law enforcement operations, this partnership and ongoing training remain essential to improving outcomes, enhancing officer preparedness, and ensuring compassionate, informed responses throughout Hinds County.

We appreciate our command staff for their commitment to professional growth and for advancing the standard of service within HCSO. Their leadership directly contributes to safer interactions, stronger community trust, and a more informed approach to mental health in the scope of law enforcement.
