Aaron B. Banks, Councilman Ward 6 - Jackson, MS These are the things that ensure and stimulate growth and development.

The quality of city services cannot be measured in speeches, but in the measurement of our most fundamental job, which is to provide responsive and visible public safety; safe streets and consistent maintenance, and a clean, reliable water sysem. As I reflect on the state of our city, it is important that as City Council President that we prioritize Jackson's budget to provide the basic services w

e need and citizens deserve. The quality of city services cannot be measured in speeches, but in the measurement of our most fundamental job, which is to provide Jacksonians responsive and visible public safety; safe streets and consistent maintenance, and a clean, reliable water system.

Two points: Collections for Sanitation (garbage) are above the contract amount, and there is no need for additional increase, unless there is another reason not yet revealed. Since 2018 the cities collection on its enterprise funds water and sewer has not seen this type of success, we were collecting between 350k - 750k and it was very unstable. Although there is room for improvement, I must applaud the work of JXN Water and the ITPM.

JXN WATER TO HOST EVENT CELEBRATING
FIRST-OF-MANY SMALL PIPE REPLACEMENTS

Jackson, Miss. – JXN Water announces the first-of-many small pipe replacements have started to improve service for customers in South Jackson. JXN Water aims to replace 100 miles of pipe with similar projects across the city, addressing known concerns related to pipe condition and water pressure.

The ceremony will take place at noon on Tuesday, April 16, at 3208 Lakewood Drive. Attendees should approach the area through Wooddell Drive and turn on Lakewood Drive.

Replacing these undersized pipes will meet neighborhood needs and align with industry standards for a safe and reliable water system. JXN Water will replace the existing 2-inch-diameter pipes with upgraded 6-inch and 8-inch-diameter pipes. The new pipes will provide higher, more consistent water pressure and better fire hydrant performance.

The small pipe replacement also supports sustainable long-term operations for the city’s water system in multiple ways:
Asset Management – Understanding the condition of water infrastructure across the city.
GIS Mapping – Identifying where all the city’s water infrastructure is, both above and below ground.
Hydraulic Modeling – Mapping how water flows through the system.
JXN Water began work in March 2024. The area has historically experienced low water pressure, and the initial phase will replace one mile of pipe across seven sections in the area.

The initial one-mile pipe replacement is expected to be complete by this summer. Thanks to the hydraulic model and asset management, additional projects have been identified, and work will be ongoing in the Jackson community.

To see another shooting with multiple victims, to know that families and friends have unexpectedly lost love ones to senseless gun violence, saddens our hearts. Here in Jackson, MS we have had similar instances that could have a similar or worst result. We must find a way to prevent and restrict guns from getting in the hands of the wrong people.
