"True Community Credit Union wanted to participate in Community Impact Day because key to our mission is giving back to our community. When we have an opportunity to do that and to do it as a team there's so much value in that. We love Jackson, we love all of the nonprofits, and we love places like the Dahlem Center where people can gather for community.

We do really good work inside the four walls of our branches and headquarters, but the reality is, the people that we serve are outside of our four walls. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for our community and for these businesses, nonprofits, people, or the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce bringing people together. The world is so ugly right now. People are anxious and there’s a lot of fear.

But when you have the opportunity to gather together and do something to make your community better who wouldn't want to do something like that?"

—Chrissy Siders, President and CEO, True Community Credit Union

"My name is Melissa Burgett with the Jackson Chamber and I want to thank everyone for coming out to Jackson’s first Community Impact Day, an event that mobilized 125 volunteers across 16 projects. This is our first time doing this event…and Jackson showed up! We had groups of volunteers from Henry Ford, True Community Credit Union, Dawn Foods, Chelsea State Bank, the Jackson Chamber, Jackson County National Bank, Consumers, and more. There were so many people who showed up and wanted to be involved.

On behalf of the Chamber, to everybody that participated, to our nonprofits, to SOAR for hosting us—thank you!”

"My name is Beth Philo and I’m a member of the Jackson Kiwanis Club. Back in the '20s, our Kiwanis Club owned this property. Before there was a Jackson Parks Department, our club ran the summer programs, both here and at McCulloch Elementary School. After the Parks Department was created, the Jackson Kiwanis Club sold this land to Jackson for $1 with the agreement that it would stay named ‘Kiwanis Park’ and we would help maintain it.

Kiwanis gives in a lot of ways to the community. Every year, we give every third grader in Jackson a dictionary. We gave 96 bikes and helmets to elementary schools for reading month. Our lifelong project has been shoes and boots for kids. When we started in 1918, the Kiwanis businessmen saw that there were a lot of widows and children who had no shoes and boots. They talked to the local newspaper and asked if they could have the street corners and sell the newspapers one day a year, and that money would go for shoes and boots for widows and kids. We have done that project every year for the last 105 years, and we now give an average of $10,000 a year for shoes and boots for kids in the Jackson area.

A day like Community Impact Day is very important because this community wants to use this park, not just as a place for kids to play, but to have events like baby showers and other activities. We want it to look good and we want to be proud of our community, so we’re cleaned up the park.

We're open to membership at any time, to both men and women. Join Kiwanis!"

—Beth Philo, Jackson Kiwanis Club

"When we found out the Chamber was doing Community Impact Day and we were doing Jackson Gives Day a week apart, we said, why don't we do this together?

We could not be more thankful for the partnership that we had with the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, because we know that we can't do it alone. It takes all of us, and you showed up today in lots of ways. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for contributing to Community Impact Day."
