This week, our school leaders led data meetings with our Montessori 9-12 scholars and their parents to review their MAAP data from the end of last school year. Working together, students and adults set goals for the upcoming school year, created an action plan for making those goals a reality, and parents documented how they would help hold their scholar accountable. We were excited to welcome JPS Superintendent Dr. Errick Greene, Assistant Superintendent Ms. Dionne Woody, and JPS school board member Mitch McGuffey onto campus this morning to see all of the wonderful things happening at McWillie! The team got to visit Mrs. Agustín’s Pre-K classroom, Mrs. Thames’ Montessori 6-9 classroom, and Mrs. Gladney’s Montessori 9-12 classroom and experience for themselves what hands-on learning and engaging teaching looks like at McWillie! Happy First Day!

Our morning started out strong with over 30 dads and male role models showing up to high-five and cheer on every scholar on their way inside the building! Families came in excited for the new year and ready to support their kids today! Our teachers and staff have been busy teaching and getting to know their new students! In our Montessori 3-6 classes, only the kindergarteners started today and their class family will keep growing over the next two weeks as PreK-3 and PreK-4 scholars phase in. Our spectacular PTA held their annual Chalk the Walk today and invited all students, families, and supporters to meet at school to write affirming messages all along the walkways leading to the front doors. We appreciate the generous souls who braved the blazing heat so our scholars are greeted with nothing but positivity tomorrow morning! One of our most important traditions at McWillie is our annual Senior Walk. Scholars who previously attended McWillie are invited to wear their cap and gown and parade up and down the hallways with our 5th graders following as younger students, teachers, faculty, and families cheer them on! There are always so many tears as these young adults thank the teachers who nurtured and taught them when they were young. Jackson Public Schools
