🚨 NEW SERIES: SAFETY 1ST FRIDAY 🚨

It’s Friday — and we’re putting SAFETY 1ST!

The safety and well-being of our community is our highest priority. Our Police and Public Safety Department is committed to providing a safe environment and continually looks for ways to strengthen our emergency response capabilities.
One valuable asset available to our community is the Lynx Panic Alarm system. The alarm can be activated directly from a computer workstation, providing a quick and convenient way to alert the appropriate personnel when immediate assistance is needed.
We encourage everyone to take a moment to familiarize themselves with the system and understand how it can be used in an emergency.
Remember:
• Know how to activate the Lynx Panic Alarm.
• Use the system only for emergencies or situations requiring immediate assistance.
• Follow established emergency procedures.
• Call 911 when immediate police, fire, or medical assistance is needed.
Our Police and Public Safety Department is proud to provide tools like the Lynx Panic Alarm that help enhance our ability to respond when it matters most.
Your safety is our priority. Stay alert. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

🚔 Motivation Monday 🚔

A safe campus starts with each of us.

As we begin a new week at UMMC, remember that the small choices we make every day help create a safer environment for our patients, visitors, students, and employees.

✅ Stay aware of your surroundings
✅ Use designated crosswalks
✅ Put phones away while walking or driving
✅ Secure your belongings and vehicles
✅ Report suspicious activity immediately

At UMMC Police & Public Safety, we’re committed to protecting and serving our campus community 24/7. Together, we can make safety everyone’s responsibility.

Let’s start the week strong, stay alert, and look out for one another.

We’re incredibly proud to recognize Officer Jadarius Collins for being highlighted by UMMC leadership for his outstanding service and compassion.

As Vice Chancellor LouAnn Woodward shared, Officer Collins went above and beyond when assisting a visitor who arrived on campus during a family medical emergency. Rather than simply giving directions, he personally guided the visitor to the correct location, ensured he knew where to park, and walked him into the hospital to make sure he reached the help he needed.

This act of kindness reflects what UMMC Police & Public Safety is all about—serving others with professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to making a difference when people need us most.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Collins on this well-deserved recognition. We are honored to have him representing our department and living out the values we strive to uphold every day.

👏 Congratulations, Officer Collins! Thank you for your dedication to serving our UMMC community.

Four officers. One goal. A new chapter. 💙👮‍♂️

Today, we’re proud to recognize four members of our UMMC Police & Public Safety team who are taking the next step toward becoming law enforcement officers.

These four recently completed their physical fitness test as they prepare to attend the police academy. The academy will challenge them physically, mentally, and emotionally—but they’ve already shown the determination and commitment it takes to get there.

This is more than passing a PT test. It’s about choosing growth, accepting a challenge, and committing to serving others at an even higher level.

We are incredibly proud of each of you and excited to watch you continue this journey from Public Safety to law enforcement. 💪

Keep pushing. Keep training. Keep showing up.

Your UMMC family is behind you every step of the way! 👏🇺🇸

Welcome to UMMC! 👋💙

Today, Captain Hale and Business Operations Manager Brandy Stuart Alford had the pleasure of welcoming three incredible groups to campus during orientation: the School of Health Related Professions, the School of Medicine Class of 2030, and Project SEARCH participants.

Throughout the day, they shared how UMMC Police & Public Safety is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who learns, works, and receives care on our campus. From safety tips and campus resources to the many services our department provides, these sessions are all about building relationships before they’re ever needed.

We’re excited to welcome our newest students and Project SEARCH participants to the UMMC family. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey—we’re here for you every step of the way.

Safety starts with connection, and we’re proud to serve our UMMC community 24/7, 365 days a year.

🧠Safety Starts with Understanding 💙

At UMMC Police & Public Safety, protecting our campus community means being prepared for more than emergencies—it means being prepared to meet people where they are.

Today two of our officers Officer Collins and Officer Sallis graduated from Crisis Intervention Training. CIT is to help recognize and respond to individuals who may be experiencing a mental health or behavioral health crisis. CIT provides officers with valuable tools for communication, active listening, de-escalation, and crisis response.

In a healthcare environment, these skills are especially important. Our officers work alongside patients, visitors, employees, students, and healthcare professionals every day, and sometimes a situation requires more than a badge—it requires patience, compassion, understanding, and the right approach.

CIT also helps our officers focus on one important goal: keeping people safe while treating everyone with dignity and respect. 💙
