Rx fire reduces overgrown vegetation and helps protect communities, infrastructure and resources from wildfire. Additionally, this project will help improve wildlife habitat by reducing dense, overgrown vegetation and stimulate new growth for high-quality forage.

During Rx fire operations, smoke may be visible from the cities of Kemmerer, LaBarge and Cokeville, WY. Please do not report.

(Ouzel Falls Fire update 5/25/26 at 9:30 p.m.)

The fire was called controlled and out at around 5 p.m. today. Resources will remain in the area overnight.

Previous update(s):

After aerial resources conducted water bucket drops via helicopter yesterday evening, crews hiked into the fire area and constructed containment line all the way around the fire. The fire is contained and crews are continuing suppression work in the area.

Teton Interagency Fire resources are responding to suppress the Ouzel Falls Fire located near Ouzel Falls and the Darwin Ranch in the Gros Ventre Wilderness on the Jackson Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

The fire is currently estimated at 1/10th-acre in size and burning in heavy timber and steep, rugged terrain.

Resources responding include a type 3 helicopter, wildland fire module, multiple fire engines, and firefighting personnel. Crews are working in coordination with Darwin Ranch.

Aerial resources plan to conduct water bucket drops via helicopter as weather and conditions allow, while ground crews hike in to construct containment lines and directly suppress the fire. Short haul operations may be employed to insert firefighters into terrain where traditional access is not feasible.

(Spread Creek Fire Final Update - 5/17/26) Teton Interagency Fire crews continued to make significant progress containing the Spread Creek Fire on Saturday. The lightning-caused fire is estimated at 257-acres and is now 78% contained. This will be the final update on the fire unless significant changes occur.

The Spread Creek Fire is located near Sagebrush Flat in the Spread Creek Drainage, approximately three miles south of Highway 26/287, on the Blackrock Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Firefighting resources include one type 3 helicopter, infrared-capable UAS, four interagency hotshot crews, one type 2 initial attack crew, one type 3 engine, three type 6 engines, two suppression crews and additional support resources. Approximately 164 personnel are assigned to the fire. On Monday resources will begin to ramp down as command of the fire transitions back to the local unit.

Overcast skies and cooler temperatures led to minimal fire activity on Saturday, with some creeping and smoldering. Hand crews worked to establish containment lines along the east side and heel of the fire. Crews will continue to secure the fire area, extinguish any remaining hot spots and improve areas of constructed line as necessary.

A cooler, wetter weather pattern moves into the area Sunday, bringing a strong chance of precipitation that continues into Monday.

The public is asked to avoid the Hatchet and Flagstaff roads and fire area so crews can work safely and efficiently. Expect increased fire traffic on Highway 26/287 near the Blackrock Ranger Station and give emergency vehicles plenty of space.

(Spread Creek Fire Update - 5/16/26) Teton Interagency Fire crews made significant progress containing the Spread Creek Fire on Friday. The lightning-caused fire is estimated at 257-acres and is now 53% contained.

The Spread Creek Fire is located near Sagebrush Flat in the Spread Creek Drainage, approximately three miles south of Highway 26/287, on the Blackrock Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Firefighting resources include two type 1 helicopters, one type 3 helicopter, Infrared-capable UAS, four interagency hotshot crews, one type 2 initial attack crew, three type 3 engines, three type 6 engines, two suppression crews and additional support resources. Approximately 167 personnel are assigned to the fire.

The fire showed minimal activity on Friday, with only light interior smoke visible. Fire crews significantly increased containment as they extended hose lay along the heel and flanks of the fire and mopped up smoldering areas within the perimeter. Hand crews are working to establish containment lines along the east side and heel of the fire. Crews will continue direct attack, working along the fire’s edge to strengthen control lines and increase containment, while aerial resources support operations on the ground.

Saturday will be a bit cooler and less dry as moisture in the atmosphere increases. This will lead to minimum humidity remaining elevated above 25 percent, as well as a chance of a passing shower or thunderstorm over the fire area. Wind will remain elevated, prevailing out of the west with gusts to around 25 mph this afternoon. Any shower or thunderstorm passing near the fire area could produce wind gusts around 40 mph. The chance of wetting rain remains low with this activity. Wind will drop off slightly but remain elevated after sunset as a weak cold front approaches from the west. This will bring colder temperatures Sunday morning and increase the chances of snow showers by Sunday afternoon.

The public is asked to avoid the Hatchet and Flagstaff roads and fire area so crews can work safely and efficiently. Expect increased fire traffic on Highway 26/287 near the Blackrock Ranger Station and give emergency vehicles plenty of space.

(Spread Creek Fire Update - 5/15/26) Teton Interagency Fire crews continue suppression efforts on the Spread Creek Fire. The lightning-caused fire is estimated at 257-acres and is 5% contained. Reported acreage has been lowered to reflect more precise mapping data; initial estimates were based on the best available information at the time.

Approximately 150 personnel are assigned to the fire.

Fire behavior moderated Wednesday night into Thursday after scattered showers and cooler overnight temperatures. The fire saw minimal growth Thursday. High winds and dry conditions led to increased fire activity in the afternoon, with torching and some spotting. However, air and ground resources responded quickly and were able to suppress flare-ups. Crews have established hose lay around the heel of the fire and are going direct on the northwestern flank, working along the fire’s edge to strengthen control lines and limit fire spread. Today, crews will move in and continue strengthening containment lines.

Sunny, dry and windy weather is predicted for Friday, with gusts up to 25 mph and low relative humidity. A gradual cooldown and possible precipitation could develop by Sunday.

The public is asked to avoid the Hatchet and Flagstaff roads and fire area so crews can work safely and efficiently. Expect increased fire traffic on Highway 26/287 near the Blackrock Ranger Station and give emergency vehicles plenty of space.
