🌌 Looking for something to do this evening? 🌌

The Fort Belmont Star Party is happening tonight from 8:30–10:30 PM at Fort Belmont.

While the weather may have moved us indoors, we’ve still got a fun evening planned with:

✨ A presentation about the night sky
✨ Star maps and astronomy materials
✨ A telescope learning station
✨ A VR experience featuring space exploration and a virtual walkthrough of the International Space Station

We’ve got the museum set up and ready to go, and we’d love to have you stop out for a relaxed evening of astronomy and exploration.

🌌 Tomorrow Night at Fort Belmont

The Fort Belmont Star Party is almost here.

Join us tomorrow evening for a night of:
✨ Stargazing
✨ Telescopes
✨ Glowing pathways
✨ History after dark

📅 Saturday, April 25
🕣 8:30–10:30 PM
📍 Fort Belmont

We’ll continue keeping an eye on conditions, but either way, we’ll have something to experience tomorrow night. If weather doesn’t cooperate for outdoor viewing, we’ll move indoors for a guided program inside the museum.

🌙 It may get chilly after sunset, so feel free to bring a lawn chair, blanket, or light jacket for the evening.

We’re excited to welcome everyone out for a unique evening under the stars 🌌

🌌 Star Party Update – New Date Announced!

Due to weather conditions, the Fort Belmont Star Party has been rescheduled—and we’ve got a new night picked out:

📅 Saturday, April 25th
⏰ 8:30–10:30 PM
📍 Fort Belmont

We made the call so we can give everyone the full experience—clearer skies, better viewing, and a night that’s truly worth coming out for.

✨ Telescopes
✨ Glowing pathways
✨ A one-of-a-kind nighttime atmosphere

👉 If weather doesn’t cooperate on the 25th, we’ll still have an indoor program available so you can come out and enjoy the evening.

If you were planning to come, we hope you can make the new date—and if you haven’t committed yet, this is your chance.

🌌 4 days until the Fort Belmont Star Party

We’ve had a few questions about the weather, so here’s where things stand:

We’re keeping a close eye on conditions as we get closer. Since this is a stargazing-focused event, clear skies are an important part of the experience.

👉 If weather conditions aren’t suitable, the event will be postponed to make sure everyone gets the full experience.

That said, it’s still a bit early to know exactly how the sky will look. We’ll continue to monitor things and share updates as we get closer.

👉 We’ll be posting updates here throughout the week, so be sure to check back.

For now, we’re moving forward and getting everything ready ✨

Life in a Frontier Encampment

During Pioneer Days Rendezvous, the grounds at Fort Belmont fill with the sights and sounds of frontier life.

Canvas tents rise across the prairie, cooking fires crackle, and reenactors demonstrate the tools, trades, and traditions that shaped everyday life in the 1800s.

Visitors can wander through camp, ask questions, and experience history in a way that books and museums alone can’t capture.

Pioneer Days returns August 22–23, 2026.

More details will be shared in the coming months.

What can you expect at Pioneer Days Rendezvous?

Step through the gates at Fort Belmont and you’ll find more than a festival — you’ll step into another century.

The crack of cannon fire rolling across the prairie.
The glow of the forge as a blacksmith shapes hot iron.
Open-fire cooking, primitive encampments, and historic trades brought to life by skilled reenactors and artisans.

This isn’t just something you watch — it’s something you experience.

Mark your calendars for August 22–23, 2026. More details will be shared in the coming months.

📸 From the Archives
Here’s a sweeping view of Jackson in 1888, captured from the top of Thomas Hill.

This rare photo shows many of the town’s earliest landmarks — the 1874 Frame School, the Norwegian Lutheran Church, the first courthouse building, the Presbyterian Church, and the Methodist Church — all surrounded by open prairie and dirt roads. It’s a fascinating snapshot of a community just beginning to take shape.

✨ It’s amazing how much of Jackson’s early layout can still be imagined from this vantage point today.

📍 Stop up and explore more local history at Fort Belmont — open by appointment during the off-season!

🎄 Festival of Trees — Starting December 1!
The Jackson County Historical Society is once again hosting their annual Festival of Trees at the museum in Lakefield, and Fort Belmont is excited to take part!

Local businesses and organizations are invited to decorate a tree with a theme of their choice during Thanksgiving week. Beginning Monday, December 1 through Tuesday, December 30, the public can visit the museum, enjoy the beautifully decorated trees, and vote for their favorite by donating $1 per vote.

✨ Open House:
📅 Saturday, December 6
Enjoy holiday refreshments while you explore the displays and support local history.

Half of all voting proceeds go to the tree with the most votes, and the other half supports the Jackson County Historical Society — a wonderful way to celebrate the season and help preserve our shared history.

If you stop by, be sure to look for Fort Belmont’s tree and cast a vote!
Please share and help spread the word. 🎄
