Your dog probably has a job to do around your home. Maybe they’re a cuddle buddy, guard dog, furry doorbell, exercise buddy, accessibility partner, or, most importantly, your best friend. 🐾

But did you know dogs have jobs in national parks, too?

Here in Grand Teton, specially trained dogs work alongside park partners to help protect the places we love. This week, some talented pups are helping sniff out invasive plants, including salt cedar and perennial pepperw**d, along the Snake River corridor.

Their incredible noses can find plants people might otherwise miss, helping us protect native ecosystems.

A big thank you to and **dpest22 for bringing these four-legged conservationists to Grand Teton!

We call these unique dogs our bark rangers. 🐶🌿

Dogs aren't the only 4-legged friends making an impact in the fight against invasive species - our mule and horseback crews are on the trail! 🤠

🌿 Through the Jackson Hole W**d Management Association, these mule and horseback treatments help TCWP reach trails, slopes, and remote corners of Teton County where early detection and rapid response matter most. These horseback crews help us reach the trails, slopes, and remote areas where vehicles can’t go and backpack sprayers can only get so far.

We’re protecting Teton County’s wild places one trail at a time. 🐴

👋🏽 Meet Mark Daluge, our Assistant Supervisor at the District, he’s self-proclaimed “Organizer.”
Part 1: Mark explains the Early Detection Rapid Response (EDRR) program and how it works to combat invasive species. He’s motivated by the progress he sees from year to year. He gauges the success of their efforts by the amount of herbicides used in the summer season compared to prior year. When measuring success for mosquito treatment, it’s a bit different, they gauge success by the number of skeeters caught in traps and that’s based on how well they treated the larvae pools. 🐛 🦟

Mark explains the District’s process when identifying 👀 priority species based on the region in the valley they are found.

Stay tuned for Part 2 for action packed drone treatment info.

🏞️ National Park Week is here!

From August 22nd-30th, we’re celebrating the places that ground us, inspire us, and connect us to our natural world. Here in Grand Teton National Park, that connection runs deep—shaping our local economy, our outdoor culture, and our everyday access to wild, open spaces. 🌲

✨ Some favorite ways to experience our park this week:

🥾 Taggart Lake is our favorite quick and classic hike with sweeping views and the peaceful lakeside payoff

🏔️ The Signal Mountain Trail is a moderate 6-7 mile hike with unmatched panoramic views of Jackson Hole and the Tetons

⛺ Colter Bay is the best for lakeside camping, kayaking, and easy shoreline exploring

Our team is proud of our ongoing, long-term, and meaningful work through habitat restoration projects, as well. Along Mormon Row, our team has been working with local agencies and community non-profits to help restore and protect critical ecosystems through sagebrush restoration, combating the relentless threat of cheatgrass and other invasive annuals.

A big thank you to our partners at Grand Teton National Park, Grand Teton National Park Foundation, and the National Park Service for their continued stewardship and commitment to preserving these landscapes for future generations.

It’s World Mosquito Day 🦟… and we know what you are thinking “Ugh.. why?!” Well, we want you to be aware of the most deadly animals 💀 in the Animal Kingdom! No, seriously… they spread vector-borne diseases 😷 responsible for 700k deaths per year! (Ahem.. humans 😓 are the second most deadly).

The District prioritizes your public health and we want to remind you what we do to help: we monitor, we analyze, we educate, we treat! We ALL work as a team to keep our community safe.

Mikenna Smith, Teton County W**d & Pest Entomologist, and Kelsey Mitchell, Teton County W**d & Pest Biologist, recently presented the results of the first three years of our Tick Surveillance Program in Jackson to the Public Tick IPM Working Group! 🕷️

🙌 What began as a county-level surveillance effort quickly expanded into a statewide program thanks in large part to funding from the Wyoming Mosquito and Vector Management Association. This support allowed TCWP to increase surveillance efforts across Wyoming and begin developing a more comprehensive understanding of tick distributions statewide.

💥 To further expand the impact and reach of our surveillance efforts, our team is excited to share a comprehensive dashboard from our website in the coming weeks. Residents will be able to access real-time updates on ticks and the prevalence of tick-borne diseases, like Colorado Tick Fever virus, in our area.

🌿 Our team proudly supports Teton County nonprofits engaged in land stewardship, conservation, and natural resource management!

✨ Natural resource stewardship helps preserve our favorite places and experiences for future generations to enjoy, ensures wildlife and plant communities can continue to thrive, and protects us from the effects of climate change, destructive wildfires, and production losses due to invasive species encroachment.
