On Thursday evening, Jackson Fire Rescue and the Cape County Firefighters Assocation was honored to host a Brick Dedication Ceremony at the walkway leading to our 9/11 Memorial at Fire Station 1.
This memorial walkway is dedicated to the members of the fire service from Cape County who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Thursday's ceremony marked the placement of the second memorial brick on the walkway, honoring Fire Chief Garry Moore of the Whitewater Fire Protection District.
Chief Moore tragically lost his life in the line of duty while responding to the devastating tornado that struck the City of Delta in April 2025. His dedication, leadership, and service to the citizens of Cape County will never be forgotten.
The ceremony included remarks from Cape County Firefighters Association President and Jackson Fire Rescue Captain Michael Gentry, followed by a message from Chaplain Joshua Rau.
A beautiful handmade quilt from the Jackson Scrappers Quilt Guild was presented to Chief Moore's family, while the Whitewater Fire Protection District was presented a commemorative banner from the Missouri Valley Division of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
We were humbled by the tremendous support shown by Chief Moore's family and friends, members of the fire service from across the County, local business owners, the Cape County Coroner, members of the Cape County Commission, and many others who attended to honor his memory.
Chief Moore's brick will remain permanently on the memorial walkway, serving as a lasting tribute to his sacrifice and commitment to protecting the citizens of Cape County.
May we always remember his service, honor his legacy, and never forget the ultimate price he paid in the line of duty.
