This afternoon, multiple Jackson Fire Department crews responded to a reported brush fire. Crews quickly located the fire and worked to contain and extinguish the flames before they could spread further. Madison County Fire Rescue assisted with extinguishing the fire and supplied additional water with a tanker to support firefighting operations. Crews remained on scene to mop up hot spots and ensure the area was fully extinguished.

With dry conditions and changing weather, brush fires can spread rapidly and threaten nearby homes, structures, and surrounding property.

This incident is a strong reminder of the importance of fire prevention and preparedness:

• Never burn on windy or excessively dry days
• Keep leaves, grass, and other combustible materials cleared away from structures
• Maintain a defensible space around your home and outbuildings
• Never leave an outdoor fire unattended
• Always completely extinguish a fire before leaving the area

A small fire can become a large fire in a matter of minutes. Stay aware, stay prepared, and help prevent the next one.

This event is more than a physical challenge. Each step represents the courage, sacrifice, and service of the first responders who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

This workshop is designed specifically for first responders and their spouses/significant others and provides practical tools to strengthen communication, navigate the unique stresses of the job, and build a stronger relationship—together.

🔥🚒 The Mini Firefighter Challenge was a HUGE hit! 🚒🔥

More than 200 kids accepted the challenge, and they absolutely crushed it! 💪👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

It was an incredible day filled with smiles, competition, teamwork, and a whole lot of fun. We loved seeing so many kids take on the challenge and get a little taste of what it’s like to be a firefighter!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this possible and to all the kids who came out and gave it their best!

Now, please excuse our CRR staff… they need a nap. 😂😴🚒

🚒🔥 The next generation of firefighters starts here!

We’re excited to unveil a brand-new challenge designed to give kids a fun, hands-on look at what it takes to be a firefighter!

A HUGE shoutout to Captain Avery McElrath for sharing his vision and helping bring this idea to life, along with the crews of Engine 42 B, Engine 22 C, Rescue 2 C, and our CRR team for all the hard work that went into making this project possible.

This prop took a lot of teamwork, creativity, and dedication to bring together—and we know countless kids will enjoy it for years to come!

Who knows? We may be meeting some future firefighters through this challenge! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒🔥

🚨 Last Night’s Residential Fire: Close the Door & Have a Second Way Out 🚨

Last night, Jackson Fire Department crews responded to a residential structure fire on Vance Street. The occupant attempted to escape through the front door but was blocked by smoke and fire.

He did exactly what he was supposed to do: he closed the bedroom door, limiting the spread of smoke and fire, and used a secondary escape route through the window. 👏

This is why we emphasize Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C. If your primary exit is blocked, close the door, stay low, and use your secondary escape route.

🔥 Close Before You Doze.
🚪 Close the door.
🪟 Know two ways out.
📞 Get out and call 911.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The occupant was evaluated on scene and fortunately reported no injuries.

Every second counts. Have a plan before you need it.
