Here is another call for service where gift cards from Police Lights Of Christmas were used this year:

Officer Oswald responded to a rescue call where a woman had fallen while she was trying to clean up cat vomit and she was unable to get up. To make matters worse, her husband experienced a medical emergency a couple days prior leaving her home alone.

Officer Oswald and Jackson Fire Department members helped the woman up and helped clean up as much of the cat vomit as they could. Officer Oswald is a cat person (we don't hold it against him because it's better than being a Bears fan) so cat vomit is nothing new to him. He gave the woman a couple of gift cards and some recommendations on what cleaners work the best.

The simplest acts of kindness are often the ones that make the biggest impact. Your votes help us make a difference in others' days. All the votes for Jackson PD, will used to buy gift cards that we can use in the Jackson community.

A Major Milestone in Lt. Mike Foeger's Road to Recovery

Yesterday marked an incredible milestone in Lt. Mike Foeger's road to recovery. After three long months in the burn unit, Mike was released and transferred to a rehabilitation facility, where he will continue his recovery.

We were honored to provide an es**rt as Mike was transported from one hospital to another. Upon his arrival, he was greeted by an incredible show of support from fellow law enforcement officers, firefighters, medical staff, family, and friends. It was a truly touching and emotional moment for everyone involved.

Throughout this unimaginable ordeal, Mike has demonstrated extraordinary strength, determination, and resilience. His fighting spirit has been nothing short of inspiring, and we could not be prouder of the progress he has made.

We continue to keep Mike's father, Karl, and the entire Foeger family in our thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult journey.

Finally, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the countless individuals, organizations, and communities who have surrounded the Foeger family with prayers, encouragement, generosity, and unwavering support. The outpouring of compassion has been truly remarkable.

Mike still has a long road ahead, but yesterday was a wonderful reminder of just how far he has come and how many people are standing behind him.

Keep fighting, Mike. We're all behind you!

Here is another story of how we used last year's Police Lights Of Christmas gift cards to help others:

Officers responded to a call from a woman who was experiencing an environment that was unsafe for her and her daughter. Due to the situation, she left her home quickly without her purse. The woman was given gift cards so she could purchase enough fuel to get to a family members house.

These gift cards help us help others and it would not be possible without the support we receive from you.

Det. Gerke will be presenting at Westbury Bank's Fraud Awareness Seminar tomorrow evening, from 6-7pm, at the Jackson Parks & Recreation Department.

There is a common misconception that elders are more often the victims of scams. The reality is their age group experiences the most money lost. This is because they have spent their lifetime working and have more money saved; but it is the 40-50 year old age group that has the highest number of people who report being victims of scammers. Also, according to www.IC3.gov, they received 13,168 complaints from scam victims who were 17 years old and under, accounting for $12,988,892 in financial loss, with the average loss of $986 per person. Scammers target every age group.

This week we are going to share some stories of how we used last year's Police Lights Of Christmas gift cards.

Back in April, we sent Citizen Police Academy (CPA) Alumni Traci and Christine shopping. They were given $600 worth of gift cards and given very simple instructions: buy as much of whatever Washington County Humane Society had on their wish list. 🐾💙 After Traci and Christine accomplished their shopping goal, we delivered the much-needed supplies to support animals in our community.

The whole purpose of the visit to the humane society was solely to deliver the much-needed supplies. The ability to pet that DAAAWWWWG had absolutely nothing to do with it. We only asked staff if we can pet that DAAAAAWWWWWWGG approximately a gazillion times, but it was not a big deal. We are pretty sure they will let us visit them again. 😁

🚨 JACKSON DETECTIVE RECOVERS NEARLY $70,000 FOR FRAUD VICTIMS — AND NOW SHE WANTS TO HELP YOU AVOID BECOMING ONE!

We want to take a moment to recognize some outstanding investigative work by our very own Detective Jennifer Gerke!

On August 10th, an 81-year-old Village of Jackson resident reported losing $49,800 after falling victim to an online scam. The resident had clicked on what appeared to be an antivirus notification on his computer. Unfortunately, it was a scammer who eventually convinced the victim to visit his bank and wire nearly $50,000 to a Bank of America account. Once the money was transferred, the scammer disappeared.

Detective Gerke was assigned the case and went to work trying to track down the stolen money. Her investigation revealed that the bank account had previously been used to transfer funds to China. As you can imagine, investigating financial crimes involving different jurisdictions and international transactions can be extremely challenging.

But Detective Gerke didn't give up!

Through extensive investigative work, subpoenas, and financial records, she discovered that $44,020 of the victim's money remained in the account. She subsequently obtained and executed a seizure warrant, resulting in that money being returned to our resident!

Her investigation also led her to identify and assist another fraud victim in New Jersey.

👏 Here's what makes this even more impressive...

This isn't the first time Detective Gerke has successfully recovered a substantial amount of money for a fraud victim. Earlier this year, she recovered nearly $25,000 for another Village resident who had been scammed.

That's nearly $70,000 recovered for fraud victims in just a few months!

Anyone who has dealt with financial fraud investigations knows how difficult it can be to recover stolen money, especially when scammers are operating overseas. Detective Gerke's persistence, investigative abilities, and dedication to helping victims deserve recognition.

We're extremely proud of her work and the difference she's making for the people we serve!

Due to required maintenance needs, the Jackson Water Utility’s scheduled water system flushing has been postponed to Monday, October 26, through Friday, October 30, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.
