One of the hardest conversations families have is the driving conversation.

Your loved one still wants to go where they want to go.

That independence matters, and it's worth protecting.

But when you're noticing things like getting turned around on familiar routes, or unexplained scrapes on the car, it's okay to gently step in.

You don't have to make it a confrontation.

Try something like: "I thought it might be nice to ride with your neighbor this time, or we could find someone who takes you exactly where you want to go.

You tell them where, and they get you there."

That's it. No argument.

Just an option that keeps them feeling like they're still the one in charge, because they are.

Grateful for yesterday.

Thank you to the Southwest Area Agency on Aging and Disability and our friends Southwest Tennessee Development District for hosting such a meaningful event, and for the work you do every day on behalf of older adults and their families across our region.

It was a joy to be there with Rhonda, our Office Manager, and Nicole, our Director.

The two of them represent the heart of what we do, and watching them connect with neighbors, partners, and families was the best part of the day.

We had wonderful conversations with so many kind people, and every one of them was a reminder of why this work matters.

To everyone who stopped by, shared a story, or simply said hello, thank you. We're honored to be part of this community.

This post is not about the GUIDE Program.

Well, not exactly.

It is about you.

The person who rearranged their schedule, their sleep, their social life, and sometimes their entire identity to show up for someone they love every single day.

The person who Googles symptoms at midnight because they want to understand what their loved one is going through.

Who learns to be patient in moments that would test anyone.

Who quietly carries more than most people around them will ever fully see.

Caregiving is an act of love. One of the most profound ones there is.

But here is what we know about love. It is not meant to be carried alone.

The GUIDE Program was created partly because of people like you.

Here is something that surprises a lot of families when they find out.

Just because your loved one moved into an Assisted Living community or a Memory Care unit does not mean they lose access to the GUIDE Program.

Many families assume that once that transition happens, the benefits they had or could have had simply go away.

That the support stops at the front door of the facility.

That is not the case.

Patients enrolled in the GUIDE Program can continue to participate even if they live in an Assisted Living community or a Memory Care unit that is licensed as Assisted Living.

That matters because transitions are hard enough without losing the support system your family built around your loved one.

The Care Navigator who has been walking alongside your family does not disappear when your loved one moves.

The monthly check-ins continue. The advocacy continues.

The connection to resources continues.

That kind of continuity is one of the most stabilizing things a family can have during a season of change.

Now here is the part worth paying attention to.

Staying connected through those monthly Care Navigation calls is what keeps the program active for your loved one.
