to second-year student Christianna Hoshko.

A chance meeting through the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Mentorship program led to an incredible opportunity for second-year student Christianna Hoshko – one that would lead her to become the first extern for the Mississippi Board of Animal Health.

Hoshko traveled the Magnolia State, doing everything from visiting commercial plants to inspecting meat at grocery stores. She even witnessed the state’s response to New World screwworm firsthand.

New World Screwworm Update: The post below by Texas Animal Health Commission provides links showing infested zones in their state.

On June 28, the infested zone established in Crockett County was modified in association with a NWS detection in a calf. The existing zone expands into portions of Crockett, Schleicher, Sutton, Terrell, and Val Verde Counties.
