There’s a confirmed breakthrough measles case in Teton Valley, Idaho. Here’s what that means.

A breakthrough case is when a fully vaccinated person still gets sick. Two doses of MMR are about 97% effective, which is great but not 100%. The upside: breakthrough cases are usually milder, shorter, and less contagious.

🤒 Watch for fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, or rash. If symptoms show up, call your provider before walking in, even if you’re vaccinated.

Babies under 6 months can’t get the measles vaccine yet, so their protection depends entirely on the people around them.

Two things make the biggest difference right now:

🍼 Make sure everyone in baby’s circle is vaccinated. A vaccinated household is a protective bubble around your baby.

🍼 Skip crowded indoor spaces while measles is circulating locally.

And if you think your baby may have been exposed, call your provider right away. Don’t wait for symptoms.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Not sure if you got your MMR shots?

Can’t track them down? There’s no harm in getting another dose. Two doses of MMR are about 97% effective against measles.

You can get vaccinated at the health department, your provider’s office, or participating pharmacies.

Walk-in MMR vaccination clinic for children 6 months to 4 years old

🗓️ Friday, July 17th, 1:00-4:00 PM

❌ No appointment needed.

✅ Bring your insurance card and your child's immunization records, especially if any vaccines were given outside of Wyoming. Free for children who are uninsured or on Wyoming Medicaid. Otherwise, we'll bill your insurance.

Supplies are limited, and doses are first come, first served.

📌 Depending on your child's age and vaccine history, this dose may not be the last one they need. Babies vaccinated at 6 to 11 months will still need the routine two-dose series starting at 12 months. Talk to your child's provider about scheduling any remaining doses.

🦠 That means some new cases can’t be traced back to travel or a known exposure, so the virus is circulating locally.

The best protection is still the MMR vaccine. Not sure about your vaccination status? Call your healthcare provider. And if you think you’ve been exposed or have symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, rash), call ahead before showing up to a clinic or ER so they can keep others safe. 🏥

Measles is spreading in Teton County. Here’s what that means for young kids. ⬇️

Because we have confirmed community spread, we’re now recommending:

🔹 Babies 6 to 11 months: one early MMR dose now, instead of waiting for their first birthday

🔹 Kids 1 to 4 with one MMR dose: get the second dose early, as long as it’s been 28 days since the first

The early infant dose doesn’t replace the routine two-dose series. They’ll still get those on schedule, which means three total doses. Extra protection during an outbreak is the point.

The Wyoming Department of Health has confirmed a fourth measles case in Teton County, and this one has no known link to the previous three.

That means community spread: the virus is moving locally in ways we can't fully trace, and there's likely more measles here than the confirmed count shows.

🚨New for parents during an outbreak: babies 6 to 11 months can get an early MMR dose. It's extra protection now and doesn't replace their regular doses later. Kids 12 months and up who've had one dose can get their second early, 28 days after the first, instead of waiting until age 4. Call your provider to talk through it.

And unlike your ex, ticks can carry actual diseases—so this summer, know how to protect yourself:
🧴 EPA-registered repellent (DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or OLE)
👖 Long sleeves + pants tucked into socks
🥾 Stay in the center of trails
🚿 Shower + full-body tick check within 2 hours of coming inside
🔥 Tumble dry clothes on high for 10 minutes
🐕 Check your pets daily and ask your vet about prevention

Breaking up with a tick is easy: fine-tipped tweezers, steady upward pull, no twisting. Then wash the area and keep an eye on it.
