⚠️ Downed Power Lines Are Extremely Dangerous
🛑If you ever see a downed power line, stay far away and report it immediately. 📱Never assume a line is safe just because it isn’t sparking or because it looks like a cable or phone line.
Electricity can travel through the ground around a fallen line, which means the area nearby could still be energized.⚡️
Remember these safety tips:
• Stay at least 35 feet away from downed lines
• Keep people and pets away from the area
• Do not drive over downed lines
• Never touch a line or anything in contact with it
If a power line falls on your vehicle, stay inside and call 911 unless there is a fire.
Your safety is always the top priority. If you see a downed line, report it immediately so crews can respond safely.

May is National Electrical Safety Month!
See this great tip from Jackson’s Fire Department!

That outlet splitter may look like it’s training for the Olympics… but if it’s powering the microwave, air fryer, coffee maker, phone chargers, and your cousin’s DJ equipment all at once — it’s probably waving a red flag. 🚩 ⚠️🔥

Overloaded surge protectors and outlet splitters can overheat and quickly become a fire hazard. These devices are designed for limited use — not to power multiple high-demand appliances at the same time.

đźš« Stop using any surge protector or splitter immediately if you notice:
• Discoloration or charring
• Melting
• Burning smells
• Signs of fire damage
• Frayed or damaged cords

⚠️ Extension cords and surge protectors should never be:
• Run under carpets or rugs
• Covered by furniture
• Pinched behind appliances
• Placed near anything that can easily catch fire

Heat gets trapped when cords can’t properly ventilate, increasing the risk of overheating and fire.

âś… Always look for devices that are laboratory tested and certified.

A good rule of thumb: if your outlet setup looks like a game of electrical Jenga… it’s time to unplug and rethink it.

At the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association’s 80th Annual Conference, our very own Monte Cooper was honored with the Leader of Leaders Award—a recognition that couldn’t be more fitting.

As the VPPLA shared, Monte truly embodies what leadership looks like in action. He elevates the people around him, leads with integrity, and consistently inspires others to grow and succeed. We’re proud to echo their praise!👏

Congratulations, Monte. Your leadership continues to move JEA forward in all the best ways.

🔥 Ever wonder why so many home cooks (and chefs!) prefer natural gas?
Take it from Briley--It’s all about control, speed, and reliability. With natural gas, you get instant heat the moment you turn the k**b, plus precise temperature control that makes everything from searing to simmering easier. No waiting, no guesswork—just better cooking. 🍳

And when the power goes out? Many natural gas cooktops keep right on working. đź’ˇ
Whether you're making a quick dinner or showcasing your skills, natural gas helps you cook with confidence every time.
