Located in the state capital, IVCJ has a wealth of resources at its disposal. It is important to note that this city is the medical, governmental, cultural, educational, and transportation center of Mississippi. It was in Jackson (University of Mississippi Medical Center) that the first heart transplant occurred. site for the international ballet competition (every four years). Government entities

are local, state, and national. The Jackson metropolitan area is the site of seven institutions of higher learning. In addition to being the site of Mississippi's only international airport, we are located at the crossroads of the South. Finally, our state remains one of the nation's principal venues for agricultural produce. Because of its wealth of resources, IVCJ develops programs for its visitors in the areas of governmental affairs (local, state, national) economic and community development, education (pre-school through college), agriculture and aquaculture, civil/human rights, local media, and the legal/judicial system. ICVJ is committed to internationalizing the state and is capable of designing professional, culturally diverse programs for international visitors throughout Mississippi. Resources for our visitors include local/state/national officials, civil rights leaders, educators, administrators, community development specialists and other experts in the public and private sectors. The International Visitors Center of Jackson has opened the door to hundreds of fruitful encounters with "typical" Americans which give our international guests a real taste of Mississippi. Drawing upon our vast network of volunteers, IVCJ arranges business, educational and cultural programs. That means not only are personal exchanges and friendships created for the citizens of Mississippi, but global business linkages are developed that are crucial to the economy of the state.

Recently, Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens II had the honor of welcoming an international delegation of visitors from Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Lebanon, and Bahrain to Jackson, MS. This distinguished group, leaders in law and government, visited the Magnolia State to learn about the U.S. Judicial System as part of Jackson State University’s International Visitor Center’s global exchange program. Through meaningful conversations, DA Owens shared insights into how justice is pursued here in Mississippi while also learning from the perspectives of these international leaders. “It was an honor to host this group of world leaders,” said DA Owens. “The rule of law is a chord that connects us across nations, and we are stronger when we learn from one another. We’re proud to highlight Mississippi’s progress on the global stage and to be part of building partnerships that cross borders and strengthen justice worldwide.”

Look who visited Mississippi!

“This is my second experience at a university abroad. The last time, I was in the U.K. for six months. This time, I'm here in the U.S., and it's only for a month. My family was more afraid of me coming here than the U.K., but I told them I had to experience the country for myself. Now they're not afraid anymore.

We’re staying at a hotel, and they drive us here everyday. When I come to the University and see that everybody is lively, happy, and dancing, it’s something different and it's fun. And, they try to make you part of it. The first activity that we attended was the pep rally before the game against Southern University. We saw the band, the cheerleaders, the dancers, and everybody else. I think we’re all grateful that we got the chance to come here and that everybody accepted us.

I ultimately want to come back to the United States or go back to England and be a Spanish professor. Growing up, some of my family spoke English. When I was in high school or middle school, my friends would ask me to explain some English things to them. I found it easy to teach them, and they would understand. When I teach people, I feel like I’m helping others. And, I feel good about myself."

“I never thought of coming to Mississippi but this experience has marked my life completely.

I met my boyfriend in the airport on our way to Jackson from Mexico. By the second day of being here, it was like we’d known each other for years. It’s been so magical. We’re from the same city, but it’s a big city. Right now, since we're in this program, we’re seeing each other every day. But, when we go back to Mexico, we may be able to see each other once a week, if we’re lucky. The long distance is going to be hard.

But, I know that it’s been worth it and I don’t have any regrets of what’s happened. He has told me that I have to travel, live my life, and do my best. 'You don’t know if you’re going to wake up tomorrow, so just live today.' And, I didn’t have that thought before I came here. So, I’m going to go back to Mexico with a different mindset. It’s going to be a different Victoria from the one who came here."
