Here at St. Mark’s, as we transition from Carnival to Lent, we are reminded that this season invites us to honor our history, practice devotion, and strengthen the ties that bind us together as One JXN.
During Black History Month, we continue to celebrate the faith, resilience, scholarship, and leadership of those ancestors whose lives continue to shape our church, our city, and our shared future. Here in Jackson, we are especially mindful of our call to help develop both the Episcopal & the Beloved Community: a vision rooted in shared responsibility & real Southern hospitality.
As we walk through Lent, we embrace this holy season of reflection, repentance, prayer, and fasting. Fasting during Lent is not about punishment; it is about focus. By giving something up, we create room for deeper prayer, greater generosity, and clearer attention to the Spirit’s work in our lives. Lent calls us to realignment of our heart, our habits, and our hope.
We also extend joyful greetings to our neighbors who are celebrating the Lunar New Year 🧨🧧 🥮 a season of renewal and fresh beginnings, and to our brothers and sisters observing Ramadan that sacred month of fasting, prayer, and devotion ☪️🤲🏾 In these parallel seasons of discipline and celebration, we see shared commitments to gratitude, self-examination, and community.
