Elk Refuge Inn

Elk Refuge Inn The Elk Refuge Inn is nestled up against the foothills surrounding the National Elk Refuge

The Elk Refuge Inn is nestled up against the foothills that surround the National Elk Refuge, about two miles north of downtown Jackson and about a five-minute drive to the entrance to Grand Teton National Park. Our location is unique in that our guests are able to enjoy the breath-taking natural landscapes found in Jackson Hole while still in close enough proximity to the historic town of Jackson

to easily drop in and enjoy the numerous local restaurants, shopping opportunities, family and adventure activities, as well as nightlife. The views from the inn are spectacular, the rooms memorable, and the service personal. The Elk Refuge Inn has a total of 24 comfortable rooms and suites, approximately half of which are fully-equipped with kitchenettes for your convenience. All rooms include full bathrooms, high speed internet, flat screen TVs, microwaves, coffee machines, small refrigerators, air conditioning, and a private patio or balcony for you to slow down, breath deep, and soak in the surrounding mountain air while enjoying the endless valley views. As fore-mentioned, The Elk Refuge Inn is adjacent to the National Elk Refuge in Jackson Hole, granting visitors an incredible vantage point to view the native wildlife. During the winter months, elk herds in the thousands come to feed at the refuge. As the morning sun rises it glistens off the freshly fallen snow, illuminating the magnificent sanctuary filled with countless bugling elk, grazing bison, soaring bald eagles, and graceful trumpeter swans gliding across the misting ponds. Often times many other indigenous animals can be seen in and around the refuge such as big horn sheep, foxes, and even a bear now and again! We are truly lucky to have such a breath-taking location to share with our guests from all over the world. Each and every day is filled with exchanging wildlife sightings, shared stories of adventure, and of course, an excellent recommendation for dinner and drinks at a favorite local restaurant after a full day of experiencing the magic that is Jackson Hole.

Not every Jackson Hole day needs a packed trailhead or a long list of stops. Sometimes you just need a quiet lake, a picnic and a little time to breathe.

Lower Slide Lake, east of Jackson in the Gros Ventre area, offers beautiful scenery and access for kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, fishing and relaxed lakeside exploring. The Forest Service’s Slide Lake Boating Site is intended for small non-motorized watercraft, while the nearby interpretive overlook offers sweeping views of the lake and the Gros Ventre Slide.

Before visiting:
🛶 Bring a properly fitted life jacket.
🚗 Expect limited parking at smaller access areas.
📱 Download directions in advance because service may be limited.
🌦️ Check weather, road and recreation conditions.
🗑️ Pack out everything you bring.
🐾 Give wildlife plenty of space.

After your lake day, return to Elk Refuge Inn for another peaceful perspective—this time overlooking the National Elk Refuge.

Save this guide for the day your itinerary needs a little less rushing and a little more Wyoming.

Okay, serious question:

🍦 What's your ALWAYS-order ice cream flavor?

Plot twist: Jackson Hole has trolls, too. 👀🌲

Meet Mama Mimi, the giant troll hiding out at Rendezvous Park! Created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, this larger-than-life outdoor sculpture turns a simple park visit into a tiny Jackson Hole treasure hunt. 💚

It's quirky. It's outdoors. It's ridiculously photo-worthy.

Basically… exactly the kind of unexpected stop we love adding to a Jackson Hole itinerary.

Save this for your August adventures, and tell us below:

When people think of Jackson Hole, they often picture cowboy hats, horses, and the Old West.

But here's the best part...

It's not just history.

It's still everyday life. 🤠

From working ranches and horseback riders to locally owned Western shops and the iconic Town Square Shootout, Jackson Hole proudly celebrates the traditions that shaped this valley while welcoming visitors from around the world.

One of our favorite ways to spend an afternoon is simply wandering downtown—popping into art galleries, browsing Western boutiques, grabbing a locally roasted coffee, and ending the evening with the legendary Shootout in Town Square.

It's the kind of experience that reminds you why Jackson Hole feels so different from anywhere else.

📍Stay just minutes away at Elk Refuge Inn and discover the authentic spirit of the American West.

Move over, moose and bears…

There's another local celebrity living in the Tetons!

Meet the Yellow-bellied Marmot—one of the cutest mountain residents you'll encounter during summer.

These curious little mammals spend nearly eight months every year hibernating, which means July is one of the best times to spot them sunbathing on rocks or whistling to warn each other of approaching visitors.

If you're hiking around rocky areas in Grand Teton National Park, keep your eyes open—you might hear a high-pitched whistle before you see them!

It's just one more reason every hike around Jackson Hole feels like a wildlife adventure.

Summer afternoons in Jackson Hole are made for slowing down.

If you're looking for a refreshing break after a morning of hiking or wildlife watching, here are three beautiful spots to add to your itinerary:

Jenny Lake – Crystal-clear water, scenic boat rides, lakeshore trails, and unforgettable Teton views.

String Lake – Calm, shallow water that's ideal for relaxing, dipping your feet, paddleboarding, or enjoying a picnic with the mountains as your backdrop.

Snake River – Find a quiet pullout, bring lunch, and take in one of the most iconic landscapes in the American West.

One of our favorite things about summer in Jackson Hole isn't rushing from one attraction to another—it's taking time to enjoy places like these.

After your adventure, return to Elk Refuge Inn, where peaceful evenings and mountain views are waiting.

✨ Which stop would you visit first?
