We had a very special visitor stop by the Jackson Police Department last week!

Asher was celebrating his birthday, and one of his birthday wishes was to meet Chief Humphreys and visit our department because he hopes to become a police officer when he grows up.

We were honored to help make his birthday wish come true! Asher got to spend some time with Chief Humphreys, check out the department, and even see what it feels like to sit behind the Chief’s desk. We think he looked right at home!

The Jackson Police Department is looking for individuals to join our team who exemplify honor, integrity, and respect. We offer the Police Recruit Program that allows those who are not academy trained, licensed police officers to be sent to the police academy, at no cost to the police recruit-plus receive a salary and benefits as specified contractually**. After successfully graduating from the police academy, recruits then advance to the position of police officer and will receive a raise.
Incentives:
Starting salary $50,691
Increased starting salary with experience
12-hour shifts, off every other weekend
Accrued vacation time starting date of employment
Sick leave after 1 year of employment
5 emergency leave days

** The contractual agreement requires the Jackson Police Department be reimbursed for training and other related costs in the event employment is voluntarily or involuntarily terminated for good cause prior to the expiration of a three-year period from the date of hire.
Candidates must be 21 years of age at the time of employment, have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and be a U.S. citizen. Applicants will not be hired if they have any felony or serious misdemeanor convictions or convictions involving moral turpitude. Must be committed to the philosophy of community-oriented policing.

As schools across our area head back into session, we'd like to remind everyone to stay alert and watch for children walking to and from school. You'll also be seeing school buses back on the road, picking up and dropping off students each day.

Here's a quick refresher: When you see a stopped school bus with its stop arm extended and red lights flashing, you must stop as required by law. Always stay alert—children may not be aware of traffic and can unexpectedly enter the roadway.

Please slow down, eliminate distractions, and use extra caution around school buses, school zones, and crosswalks. A few extra moments of patience can help keep our children safe.

Let's all do our part to make this school year a safe one. Drive carefully and watch for our students!

The Jackson Police Department is proud to announce that Chief James Humphreys has been awarded the prestigious Egon Bittner Award by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

The Egon Bittner Award is presented to chief executive officers who have led a CALEA-accredited agency for 15 or more consecutive years. The award recognizes these leaders for their outstanding commitment to professional excellence, their significant contributions to the public safety profession, and their dedication to advancing the mission of CALEA.

The award is named in honor of Professor Egon Bittner, whose work played a vital role in CALEA's early development during 1979–1980. He later served as a CALEA Commissioner from 1981 through 1988, helping guide the organization during its critical formative years.

Please join us in congratulating Chief James Humphreys on this well-deserved recognition and thanking him for his years of dedicated leadership and service to the Jackson Police Department and the community.

The precautionary boil water advisory has been lifted.

🚨 PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY – ANNWOOD ESTATES SUBDIVISION 🚨

Due to a water main break, a precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for all properties in the Annwood Estates Subdivision, in Jackson, Missouri, including:

• Brittany Drive
• Nicole Lane
• Dana Drive
• Leming Lane

A boil water advisory is issued strictly as a precaution whenever a major water main break or loss of water pressure occurs.

During this advisory, please boil water for at least three (3) minutes before using it for:
💧 Drinking or consumption
🪥 Brushing teeth
🍽️ Dishwashing
🧊 Making ice
🍳 Food and beverage preparation

The City was notified early this morning that several residences were without water. A water main break was located, and crews are actively working to complete repairs. Water service will be restored as quickly as possible.

⚠️ This advisory will remain in effect until further notice from City Officials.
