The Jackson Police Department would like to remind everyone to have a safe Halloween this year. Make sure to educate your family and friends on these safety tips:

Costume Tips
• Buy costumes that are flame retardant.
• Make sure costumes are short to avoid tripping.
• Use face paint rather than a mask if possible. Masks can limit your vision while trick or treating. Crossing the street and going up stairs.
• Wear bright colored costumes and/or place reflective tape on costume and bags.
• Provide your children and es**rt with flashlights with working batteries.

Trick or Treat Tips
• There are no set times to trick or treat on Halloween (Oct. 31) in the City of Jackson. Use your discretion.
• Make sure your children are with a group of others and have an adult es**rt and cell phone.
• Make sure you know the safest path to walk. Stay on sidewalk or walk in road facing traffic.
• Do not walk in the road. Alleys and dark areas should be avoided as well. Children can jump out from parked vehicles or bushes.
• Only go to houses with lights on. Your children should not go inside any house or vehicle.
• If a house does not have their lights on do not stop.

Drivers
• Drive slow and be aware of your surroundings.
• Be mindful of children crossing the street or walking along the road.

Candy
• Tell your children not to eat their candy until they get home.
• Check all candy for opened or torn wrappers. Throw away if suspicious.
• Be careful of home made treats and fresh fruit.

If you don't want to door to door...

Take your children to local schools/churches/community events that may have a Halloween party.

Have your children know how to call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency or if they become lost. Call us if you see any suspicious activity 📞 573-243-3151. An officer will be sent out right away.

Party Tips

If you plan on parting this weekend...
• Make sure you have a safe ride home.
• Don't drink and drive.

The Jackson Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, is hosting the upcoming National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this fall.

Date: Saturday, October 24th
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Location: Jackson Police Department Lobby
202 W. Jackson Blvd., Jackson, MO

What You Can Bring:

Tablets
Capsules
Patches
Other solid prescription medications

What’s NOT Accepted
Liquids (including IV solutions)
Syringes or sharps
Illegal drugs

This free and anonymous event provides a safe, secure way to dispose of unused or expired medications—helping prevent misuse, accidental poisoning, and overdose.

Drop-off is quick and easy: just bring your items to the collection bin in the police department lobby during event hours. No questions asked.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

On 09/29/2026 a burglary occurred at Harold’s Jewelry in Jackson Missouri. An investigation into the burglary led to the arrest of:

Timothy A. Johnson
30 yoa
Sikeston, MO

Timothy Johnson was charged through the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office with:

2nd Degree Burglary (Class D Felony)
Stealing (Class D Felony)
Possession of a Controlled Substance/Methamphetamine (Class D Felony)

Johnson is currently being held at the Cape Girardeau County Detention Center on a $30,000 cash only bond.

An arrest warrant has been issued for an accomplice in the burglary bearing the same charges as Johnson.

The use of the FLOCK camera system was instrumental in discovering the identity of the suspect's vehicle in this case.

The charge of an offense is merely an accusation or allegation. The defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty.

The Jackson Police Department is looking for individuals to join our team who exemplify honor, integrity, and respect. We offer the Police Recruit Program that allows those who are not academy trained, licensed police officers to be sent to the police academy, at no cost to the police recruit-plus receive a salary and benefits as specified contractually**. After successfully graduating from the police academy, recruits then advance to the position of police officer and will receive a raise.

The Jackson Band Festival will take place on Tuesday October 6th @ 4pm. Bands will parade through the uptown area of Jackson traveling down S. High St., W. Main and S. Russell St.

Any vehicles parked after 2: 00 p.m. on parade route streets will be subject to towing. Vehicles will be towed at the owner’s cost to ensure the safety of those watching and taking part in the Band Festival Parade.

Normal parking rules will resume once parade has passed. Please be cautious of foot traffic and vehicle traffic after parade.

UPDATE: THE WEST JACKSON BLVD ENTRANCE IS OPEN.

DUE TO CONSTRUCTION WORK THE ENTRANCE FROM WEST JACKSON BLVD INTO THE JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL BE CLOSED THIS WEEK.

Putz construction has informed us that we will be unable to enter the police department off of West Jackson Blvd due to them working on sidewalks/ADA this week Wednesday-Friday September 30th-October 2nd. While this work is being done if you need to come to the police department please use S. Hope St. You will drive behind the fire dept to the front of the police dept. Exit out the same way you came in.

Drive with caution and allow for additional time when traveling to this area.

🚧 TRAFFIC NOTICE – WEST ADAMS STREET

Putz Construction has notified the City that access to the intersection of West Adams Street and West Jackson Boulevard will be temporarily blocked as work continues on sidewalk and ADA improvements as part of a MoDOT project.

📅 Tuesday–Thursday of this week (September 29-October 1)

During this work, traffic in this section of West Adams Street should plan to enter and exit from the east.

Please use caution in the area and allow extra time for travel while the work is underway.
