A Flood Watch is in effect until later tonight for potential flooding and flash flooding.

Heavy rain at times could trigger flash flooding, especially since the ground is already soaked from previous rainfall.

Continue to monitor forecasts and be alert for possible Flash Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue to bring at least an isolated threat for flash flooding from this afternoon through Wednesday the 27th.

A marginal risk for excessive rainfall is in place for portions of Eastern Kentucky.

A wavering frontal boundary will bring periods of rain and thunderstorms, some with torrential rainfall, through the holiday weekend and into next week.

Eastern Kentucky has seen a few scattered pockets of heavier rain and those places do have a threat of isolated flooding.

Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms cannot be ruled out today.

Locations that receive repeated rounds of thunderstorms will have the biggest risk flash flooding.

Storms are forecast to organize into east-northeast moving clusters today. This favors damaging wind gusts as the primary hazard type. Marginally severe hail will be possible within the strongest storms, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out within the slight risk area. The risk is relatively lower south of the KY-80 corridor.

05/15/2026

The Marginal Risk has been expanded to cover most of Eastern Kentucky for the threat of strong to severe storms tomorrow. Damaging winds will be the primary threat but can't rule out an isolated instance of large hail.

Things to remember when reporting an emergency:

The entire emergency response system relies on the initial call being made to 9-1-1.

9-1-1 telecommunicators are trained to obtain pertinent information that will aid in the response to your emergency and keep responders safe while doing so.

Telecommunicators are also trained to provide you with information and actions to be taken while responders are on their way that could drastically alter the outcome of your situation.

Bypassing this first step is not saving you time, it’s causing a major problem and jeopardizing the safety of first responders and yourself or those involved in the emergency.

Please remember that there is no substitute for calling 9-1-1. Calling a station directly, calling an official’s cell phone, or tagging a response agency or official on social media is not a reliable way to report an emergency.

If you encounter an emergency, please dial 9-1-1 and cooperate with the telecommunicators for the best, most reliable, response.
