TYFS, an independent private non-profit organization, has been serving children and families in Teton County and beyond since 1977, when Van Vleck House first opened its doors as a drop-in center for teens. TYFS is now the umbrella organization for three entities that are crucial to child welfare in our community and state: Van Vleck House, which includes a Group Home and Crisis Center and Court Diversion Services; Red Top Meadows, which provides residential treatment and wilderness programs for adolescent males; and the Hirschfield Center for Children which provides programs for families and children as well as forensic interviews for children subject to neglect and/or abuse. TYFS functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.

What happens when young people are given safety, support, and space to grow?

At Red Top Meadows, we see it every day.
Now, TYFS has expanded our capacity, strengthened our programming, and can serve even more youth across the region.

Healing environments matter.
And every young person deserves dignity, safety, and the chance to move forward.

This year, TYFS provided support, safety, and care to more than 800 individuals across Wyoming.

Behind every number is a story:
A teen who found stability.
A family who found support.
A young person who finally felt safe enough to heal.

From crisis response and therapy to residential care, academic support, and prevention programs, TYFS continues to meet youth and families where they are… with compassion, structure, and hope.

Because when young people are supported, entire communities grow stronger.

Healing takes time. For many youth, longer-term care provides the stability and mental health support needed to move forward with confidence.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we continue to recognize the importance of ongoing care and community support.

TYFS is proud to be part of this work that helps youth build stability and brighter futures.

Thank you to Whole Food Rescue and Sprout for helping provide breakfast and lunch to the youth we serve.

Across WYSA agencies:

1,067 youth served in crisis shelters
Average age: 14.7 years old
Average stay: 19 days
94% returned home or to a less restrictive environment

A moment of crisis doesn’t define a young person, but timely mental health support can change everything.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re reminded that safe spaces, compassionate care, and early intervention make a lasting impact.

TYFS is proud to support youth through some of their most vulnerable moments.
