🚛 A New Addition to the City of Jackson Fleet!

The City of Jackson is pleased to welcome a new street sweeper to the Public Works fleet!

The new equipment is already out on Jackson’s streets, helping our crews keep roadways clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors. The new sweeper also proudly features the City of Jackson’s new logo on the door of the cab. 👋

Street sweeping does more than improve the appearance of our community. Regular sweeping helps remove sediment, debris, yard waste, trash, dust, and other pollutants before they can enter storm drains. By keeping these materials out of our drainage system, we’re also helping protect Jackson’s lakes, creeks, ponds, and other local waterways. 🌿💧

If you see our Public Works crews and the new sweeper out in the community, please give them a wave and allow a little extra space so they can safely do their work.

Keeping Jackson clean—one street at a time. 🧹

🚨 Heads up, Jackson! 🚨

Jackson's Recycling Center will be temporarily closed all day Friday, September 4, while crews make scheduled repairs to the facility’s horizontal baler.

♻️ The Recycling Center will reopen Saturday, September 5, at 8:00 a.m.

Why are balers so important? After recyclables are sorted into bins, forklifts move the materials to the rear of the facility, where balers compact similar materials into large blocks. These blocks are then sent to a vendor for the actual recycling process.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these necessary repairs to keep the Recycling Center operating efficiently.

📞 Questions? Contact the Public Works Department at (573) 243-2300.

School’s Back — Let’s Watch for Pedestrians 🚸

With school starting, there are more students and families walking near our streets and crosswalks. It’s especially important for drivers to slow down, stay alert, and give pedestrians the right of way at crosswalks.

Our latest 2nd Quarter 2026 crosswalk compliance study shows there’s still work to do. Across the five study locations, only 13%–36% of Jackson drivers were observed yielding to pedestrians.

Let’s make safety the priority every time we get behind the wheel. Give crosswalks 100% — because getting where you’re going safely matters.

🇺🇸Flags Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of Dolly Parton 🎶

In honor and remembrance of legendary entertainer, philanthropist, and beloved American icon Dolly Parton, flags are being flown at half-staff nationwide for one week.

The City of Jackson has lowered all city flags in accordance with the order. The American flag at City Hall now flies at half-staff in honor of Dolly, who passed away at the age of 80.

Dolly’s extraordinary music, generosity, and lifelong commitment to helping others touched millions of lives. Her remarkable legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

Rest in peace, Dolly. Thank you for the music, the memories, the kindness, and the magic. Your music will live on forever. ❤️ 🦋

🎒 School Starts Tomorrow! ✏️🚌

The new school year begins Monday, August 24, for Jackson R-2 School District!

As students and staff head back to school, let’s all do our part to make the first day—and every day—a safe one. Please slow down and stay alert in and around school zones.

Be especially mindful of:
🚸 School zones and crosswalks
🚲 Students riding bikes
🚌 School buses loading and unloading
👟 Excited students walking to and from school

🛑 Drivers, never pass a stopped school bus when it is loading or unloading children!

Let’s keep the safety of our students and staff in mind as school buses and students are out and about throughout the community.

Welcome back, students! Have a safe and successful school year! ❤️📚
