☀️ SCHOOL’S OUT – PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY ☀️

Now that school is out for the summer, more children will be out in neighborhoods, parks, and along our roadways—walking, running, and riding bikes.

Please help keep our community safe by staying alert and slowing down, especially in residential areas. Children can move quickly and may not always think before stepping into the street, so extra caution from drivers makes a big difference.

🚴‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚗 Please:
• Slow down in neighborhoods
• Watch for children near streets and driveways
• Avoid distractions while driving
• Be extra alert during evening and play hours

Let’s all do our part to help ensure a safe and enjoyable summer for everyone in Jackson.

Wishing all our families a happy and safe summer!

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE: EMERGENCY STORM SEWER REPAIR 🚧

Beginning June 8, Putz Construction will perform an emergency storm sewer replacement project on Otto Drive after a failed storm sewer created a large sinkhole beneath the roadway.

Construction is expected to continue through approximately June 19, weather permitting. During this time, motorists should expect temporary road closures in the project area.

Old Cape Road at Otto Drive will be closed for several days at the start of the project. As work progresses, a portion of the 800 block of Otto Drive will also be closed to traffic. The timing of these closures may shift depending on construction progress.

Crews will replace approximately 185 linear feet of storm sewer pipe to restore the integrity of the roadway and drainage system.

Please plan alternate routes, follow posted detour signs, and use caution near the work zone.

We appreciate the community's patience as this necessary infrastructure repair is completed.

🗺️ See the attached map for closure and detour information.

Walk Jackson Week 3: For this week let’s walk the Hubble Creek Trail again. Start at Brookside Park and walk to the Jackson Civic Center where the trail currently ends. This trail follows Hubble Creek and takes you through the Sunset Hills neighborhood. Hubble Creek not only provides beautiful landscapes, it is the primary storm drain for the city. At the end of the trail if you walk on the sidewalk and cross the creek, the Walk Jackson 2026 sign will be west of the creek.
Hubble creek is not our feature this week; it is the new roundabout at North High Street (Hwy 61) and Deerwood Dr. Jackson drivers can safely navigate roundabouts by following a few essential rules: As you approach, slow down to 20 mph or less and look to your left; you must yield the right of way to all traffic already circulating within the roundabout. Always travel counter-clockwise around the central island and use your right turn signal as you prepare to exit to alert other motorists. Be mindful of large vehicles like semi-trucks or farm equipment, which may require extra space and use of the "truck apron" to maneuver. Additionally, always watch for pedestrians and cyclists at entry and exit points, and never stop inside the roundabout—if an emergency vehicle approaches, exit first and then pull over to the right. The main thing if you are driving is to slow down to the suggested speed, not the primary speed limit, and to be courteous to other drivers. For pedestrians, while drivers in the City of Jackson are required to stop for pedestrians, please use caution. The new round about does have a signed cross walk with flashing warning lights.

Two ways to submit your entry:
1) Scan the QR code on the sign and enter your
information.
2) Call 573-243-3568 ext. 2033
and leave a message with your name
and telephone number and mention
the code word listed on the sign.
