The Department of Public Safety’s Motor Carrier Safety Division is a vital aspect to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. MCSD Officers work in conjunction with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), and other law enforcing agencies across the state in an effort to promote commercial vehicle safety and security. The MCSD works in accord
ance with the statutes and regulations issued by the FMCSA. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration was established as a separate administration with the U.S. Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000, pursuant to the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999. Their primary mission is to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. They employ more than 1,000 individuals, in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, dedicated to improving bus and truck safety and saving lives. The Motor Carrier Safety Division (MCSD) consists of 32 Inspectors, 5 NE Auditors, 2 Compliance Review Investigators and 10 civilian support staff. They are certified in a vast amount of inspection procedures including: Level 1-5 CMV, Hazardous Material, Motorcoach, New Entrant, and Level 1-5 Drug Interdiction. They have also competed in state, regional, and national inspection competitions. The MCSD was established to provide a safe transportation system in the state of Mississippi while reassuring the public that the mobility of people and goods is one of their top priorities.
