Last year, Jacksonville Beach City Council and City staff members held a workshop to review and revise the City’s Strategic Plan (SP). The strategic priority for the Jacksonville Beach Police Department was to develop a Public Safety Technology Enhancement Plan (PSTEP).

We shared this plan with our community in January.

ARREST MADE IN GRAND THEFT CASE

Jacksonville Beach Police have arrested Christopher T. Neibert in connection with a grand theft investigation involving a Lectric e-bike.

This case was a great example of teamwork and collaboration between our Patrol officers and Down Town CAPE officers, with assistance from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO). Through follow-up investigation and proactive patrol work, Officer C. Ingle developed information that led officers to the suspect.

With assistance from JSO, Officer Ingle located Neibert and recovered the victim’s stolen e-bike. Neibert was arrested on the outstanding grand theft charge, and the e-bike was returned to its rightful owner. Neibert was also arrested by JSO for an outstanding warrant for failure to register as a s*x offender.

Great work, Officer Ingle, and thank you to everyone involved! Cases like this are a great reminder of what can happen when our officers and partner agencies work together toward a common goal.

Today, we remember Sergeant Dan Watts on the fifth anniversary of his passing. His absence is still felt, but so is the impact he made on the people who knew and worked alongside him.

We remember. We honor. We never forget.

Standing Up for Those Who Protect Us

K9 Officer Ben Conner and Downtown CAPE Sergeant David Cohill recently joined Senator Moody, Congressman Bean, area sheriffs, and dozens of K9 handlers at a press conference to introduce the Leo K9 Protection Act.

Named in honor of Marion County K9 Leo, who was killed in the line of duty in 2024, the proposed legislation would strengthen penalties for individuals who use a deadly weapon to harm a police dog or horse in the line of duty.

The legislation would also:
🐾 Provide Good Samaritan protections for those who provide emergency assistance to an injured police animal.
🐾 Direct the U.S. Department of Transportation to establish regulations allowing EMS to transport injured police animals.

Our K9s put themselves in harm’s way alongside their handlers every day. They are partners, protectors, and members of our law enforcement family. We were proud to have K9 Officer Conner there to support efforts to strengthen protections for these dedicated animals. 💙🐕‍🦺

Recruiting the Next Generation of Officers!

On Wednesday, Detective Ford, Officer Kuusela, and Sergeant Cooper had the opportunity to attend a recruiting event at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ).

Events like these give us the chance to connect with students, share what a career in law enforcement looks like, and talk about the opportunities available with the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.
