All please read info I stumbled on relating to getting COVID-19. I went through a lot when I had COVID and sick in bed, that nobody should have too. In Washington DC the DOL/FECA reps were tryin to say firefighters aren’t classified as First Responders. My DOL rep tried telling me with the Navy that Doctors, Nurses, Respiratory techs, police officers, Paramedics and EMTs were only classified as first responders….I then told her we all are either EMT’s or Paramedics along with being firefighters.
She continues to say we weren’t first responders so I contacted someone I know at CNIC Navy Fire and Emergency headquarters that’s pretty high up in the food chain.
They helped push this info attached here to make it easier for us to get approved as an occupational illness/injury through DOL.

Mayport is PROUD to recognize our first responders! 🚒🩺🚨📢
Today we have the honor to recognize Firefighter Troy Thrift with a *Life Saving* award. The same Certificate of Life Saving will also be presented to his wife.
While Thrift and his wife were on their way to work, Troy smelt the smoke of a building on fire. Together, they followed the smoke smell and found a trailer actively producing flames.
His wife noticed the shadow of a person inside and immediately dialed 911.
Being a firefighter, Thrift knew response times might not be quick enough for the situation and took it upon himself to rescue the occupant.
Upon opening the trailer, he found an elderly resident who could not leave the trailer without assistance. He moved quickly to protect the resident and get her out safely.
Without a doubt, Mr. And Mrs. Thrift saved a life that day.
We are also excited to announce and award Firefighter and Paramedic Steven Ames as Navy Region Southeast Emergency Medical Services Provider of the Year, 2019.
Due to COVID-19, we could not recognize him as publicly as he deserves.
Thank you for your service to Mayport and all the surrounding areas you support!!

On March 31, Delbert D. Black conducted our NAVSEA 8010 Industrial Firefighting Drill which tested our ability to respond to a fire while in an industrial environment, as well as integration with the Naval Station Mayport Federal Fire Department and local Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. This ensures the continued safety of the ship while we undergo required upgrades that change the normal response plan and compartmentalization ability of the ship.
Thank you NS Mayport Fire and Emergency Services for your support!
