Governor Duncan Mansion

Governor Duncan Mansion Amid the transformations of Illinois’s early statehood, the Duncan Mansion emerged as a testament to the hopes of a growing nation.

In 1834, Joseph and Elizabeth Duncan built the home, from where Joseph served as Illinois’s fifth elected governor. Today, the home is owned and operated by the Rev. James Caldwell Chapter NSDAR, and is open for tours. In 1971, the Mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The mansion has recently completed many restoration projects to the house and grounds to help stabilize the home, and create a more accurate historical representation of the time period of the Duncans.
