Few forces in the fire service are more powerful than a seasoned firefighter who loves the job and takes the time to mentor and invest in the next generation. Skills can be taught, but passion and pride are demonstrated and passed down.

One conversation,
One lesson,
One shift at a time.

You don’t need a rank to have that kind of influence, but you do NEED heart! Keep one of the most tried and true traditions of the fire service alive! Share your passion with those who need it the most!

🚨 In an emergency, every second counts — and we have to be able to find you!

Clearly visible house numbers can make a big difference when police, fire, or EMS are responding to your home. Numbers that are faded, hidden, too small, or difficult to see from the road can slow responders down when seconds matter.

This Curb Painting for a Cause fundraiser is a great way to make your address easier for first responders to spot — while also supporting United Way - Prairieland

🚑 FIRST DAY OF MEDIC CLASS! 🚒

Brady and Jacob are trading fire behavior for heart rhythms and hose stretches for IV starts as they head off to their first night of paramedic class!

These two have already logged quite a few miles together. They went through the IFSI Fire Academy side by side, completed their rookie year, and have continually proven themselves to be quality firefighters who are committed to learning, improving, and serving others. Now, they’re taking on the next challenge together: becoming paramedics.

At the Jacksonville Fire Department, training doesn’t stop when the academy ends. We are committed to developing well-rounded firefighters who are prepared for every kind of emergency our community may face. That means rigorous fire and rescue training, continued professional development, and the ability to provide high-quality paramedic-level emergency medical care when our citizens need us most.

Medic school isn’t easy—but neither was becoming a firefighter. We have every confidence Brady and Jacob are ready for the challenge.

We’re proud of the firefighters they’ve become, and even more excited to see where this next chapter takes them.

Good luck, gentlemen. Study hard, take care of each other, and remember: BSI, SCENE SAFETY!😂🚒🚑

🥹 Our babies are growing up so fast… Seems like just yesterday they were rookies, and now we’re handing out leather helmets. Pretty soon they’ll be complaining about “these new guys” and telling stories that start with, “Back when I was on probation…” 😂

But seriously…

Firefighter Jacob Shannon has officially completed his probationary year and earned his leather helmet — a milestone that represents a year of hard work, long days, constant learning, and proving that he belongs in this profession.

Making the moment even more special, Jacob’s father had the honor of presenting him with his helmet, while Captain Mike Hopper delivered some well-earned words about the accomplishment and the responsibility that comes with it.

We couldn’t be prouder of Jacob and the young firefighters who have recently completed their probationary years. Earning that leather isn’t the finish line — it’s really just the beginning.

These guys are the future of the Jacksonville Fire Department and, ultimately, the future of the fire service. We have the utmost confidence in the firefighters they are becoming, the brothers they already are, and the men who will someday be responsible for carrying this department forward.

Congratulations, Jacob. You earned it.

Now quit growing up so fast. We’re getting emotional over here. 🥹😂

Jacksonville firefighters have been busy — but serving our community is what we’re here for.

Over the past couple of weeks, our crews have been putting in the work on every side of the job. We’ve trained on drafting operations to ensure we can establish a reliable water supply when hydrants aren’t available, responded to fires and EMS calls throughout our community, and spent time with our Resident Assistant friends at Illinois College covering dormitory fire safety, emergency procedures, and accountability.

And because building relationships with the people we serve matters too, we even managed to mix in a little friendly competition — and a whole lot of water — with some water wars at Illinois College!

The calls change. The training changes. The challenges change. But one thing never does: our commitment to serving Jacksonville.

We’re incredibly fortunate to serve a community that supports its firefighters, and we don’t take that trust for granted. Whether we’re answering a call, sharpening our skills, educating our community, or simply spending time with the people who call Jacksonville home, our goal remains the same — to be ready, to serve well, and to continually strive for excellence.

Because at the end of the day, it’s more than what we do.

🚨 National Night Out is TONIGHT! 🚨

Come see us at Community Park and bring the whole family! We’ll have our giant firefighter Dalmatian bounce house (trust us… you can’t miss it), our fire engines, and firefighters ready to meet everyone.

Our crew may or may not have spent a little too much time “quality testing” the bounce house during setup… and after seeing the smiles, we highly recommend you give it a try too. 😄

National Night Out is about more than just a fun evening—it’s a chance for neighbors to meet the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, dispatchers, and community partners who serve them every day. It’s about building relationships, strengthening trust, and creating a safer, stronger community together before an emergency ever happens.

So stop by, say hello, climb on the trucks, bounce with us, and spend the evening with the people and organizations that make Jacksonville such a great place to call home. We can’t wait to see you! 🚒🚓🚑🐾
