🐝🌻 Pollinator Day at the Farmers Market! 🌻🐝

On Saturday, we had the pleasure of being part of Pollinator Day at the Onslow County Farmers Market! Even a few rain showers couldn’t dampen the interest and excitement surrounding our observation hive.

Visitors enjoyed getting an up-close look at the fascinating world inside a honeybee colony—and, right on cue, the queen made an appearance, making the presentation even more special! 👑🐝

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and shared their interest in honeybees and other important pollinators. And thank you to everyone who helped make it such a great morning!

🐝 Another Great Day of Beekeeping Outreach! 🐝
Here are a few photos from last weeks outreach at Childcare Network on Brynn Marr!
The children were attentive, excited, and full of great questions. We had wonderful participation, and it’s always rewarding to see young minds so interested in learning about honeybees and the important role they play in our world. 🍯🌼🐝
And we had a special surprise… the queen made an appearance! 👑🐝
A big thank you to Childcare Network for allowing us to share our love and knowledge of beekeeping with the next generation!

Yesterday’s meeting included our Association’s Annual Blind Honey Tasting Contest.

The rules are pretty simple: the honey must come from your own hives located in Onslow County, and you must be a current member of the Onslow County Beekeepers Association.
Several members brought in an unmarked jar of their own honey to enter the contest. Each jar was completely wrapped in aluminum foil so no one could see the honey or know who had entered which jar.

Every member attending the meeting was given one ticket to vote for their favorite-tasting honey. No names, no labels, no clues—just the taste of the honey! 🍯🐝

And that’s what makes taking 1st place especially exciting. The honey truly had to speak for itself! 🥇🏆🍯

Their honey was voted the best-tasting honey of 2026 by the members of the Onslow County Beekeepers Association! 🏆🍯🐝

Thank you to all of our members who entered this year’s honey tasting contest! 🍯🐝 What a wonderful, friendly competition and a great display of sportsmanship among our local beekeepers.
Our Association would not be the success it is without the time, hard work, knowledge, and dedication each of you brings to beekeeping and to our community.

*It’s not just about who takes home first place—it’s about sharing our passion for the bees, supporting one another, and celebrating the incredible honey produced right here in Onslow County.*

Guest speaker Carol Peoples from the NC Native Plant Society will talk about native plants and pollinators!

On August 19th the NCEMGV Association of Onslow County will be hosting a guest speaker Carol Peoples from the NC Native Plant Society to talk about native plants and pollinators. This is a free event open to the public and is intended to increase awareness of the importance of pollinators in conjunction with the Great Southeast Pollinator Census.

The event will run from 6-7 pm at the Hines Farm Park in Jacksonville and the first 50 people to register and attend will receive a free native plant!

A Journeyman Prep class will be hosted by the Crystal Coast Beekeepers Association on 14 November 2026, in Morehead City, NC. This is intended to provide advanced education in apiculture and assist the certified beekeeper to prepare to take the journeyman written exam at the Spring NCSBA/SCSBA joint conference in Richburg. Journeyman working toward the Master level could benefit from this class as well.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of once again visiting the wonderful town of Holly Ridge, NC!
Here are a few photos from their summer camp program at the Holly Ridge Community Center. We had the opportunity to spend time with 26 enthusiastic campers who asked fantastic questions and were eager to learn about honey bees and beekeeping.
What made the day even more special was discovering that many of these young people already knew about bee hives, and several even have hives at home! As beekeepers, it truly warms our hearts to see the next generation developing a passion for honey bees and stepping into the world of beekeeping.
A big thank you to the Holly Ridge Community Center for inviting us to share our love of bees with such an amazing group of future beekeepers! 🐝🍯
